This new bill on Divorce would definitely be a controversial one. The Philippines, being a Catholic Country, is for the unity of the family . The proponent of the bill says that if it will be a law, the spouse seeking for a divorce will still have to go through a tedious proceedings before the courts just like the famous "annulment". Divorce cannot be had by a mere agreement of the parties just like other people's belief on the bill.

It will be good to have divorce in the Philippines as a solution to people having broken marriages. It will be a way for them to start a new life with another partner. But it is good to know that the process will be tedious so that couples will have to really think it over before divorcing each other. It will also encourage couples to regard marriage as a way of starting a new life not as an individual but as two people uniting. They have to be sure before considering marriage. In short, I'd like divorce bill to be passed but I hope people will value the sanctity of marriage.

Yes, its not the Western type of divorce . Aside from the tedious process, it is also expensive hence, couples will have hesitations in resorting to it.

I am a Filipino and I don't believe in divorce. But I guess it's time for this to be a bill in the Philippines. Whether we are in a catholic country or not, misunderstandings are every where. I guess it doesn't encourage couples to get it since it has a thorough investigation and proceedings and all the aspect of your life will be affected but will have some couples who no longer have a chance to unite to have freedom. For me, Divorce is a choice. it will be the last resort. And I guess it would help some couples to enjoy the remaining years of their life away from each other than being together in a miserable life for the rest of their life. Thanks!

I totally agree with you.Divorce should be the last resort. Couples should make earnest efforts in reconciling their differences.

As far as I know only Philippines and Vatican City don't have divorce because of respect to their religion and it is not written in God's law, which is true, and I agree with these, I hope the people in these country will not support this divorce for it is not the solution..

I am praying for it to get approved in the Philippines with the recent approval of Reproductive Health Bill last year 2012 now, it is the year 2013. The Philippines need to approve divorce in order not to be left behind, even Malta where majority are catholic approve it. The reason the Philippines is the only Catholic majority in Asia with stronghold opinion as controlled by religious sects and in part of political influence. The divorce bill has a slow approval because of the brain washing made by Catholic bishops, priest, pro life and other folks. if ever divorce bill get approve, I even hold a party. This is a freedom for abuse marriages and time for both women and men to get their marital freedom.
