You must have customer service experience, computer experience and telephone experience. Call centers contract out to all different companies such as tech support for computer companies, salespersons for companies selling product, travel agencies, cell phone sales, etc. If you have experience in any of these areas ofcourse that helps.

In order to be employed in a call center company, you must have a good command of the English language since the callers will be from either US, Canada, UK, Australia or New Zealand. Of course the account (or the name of the company you're going to represent) that will be assigned to you once you're employed will determine the location of the customers you're going to assist or talk to. Let's say Company A from the US is one of the accounts of the Call Center that you're an employee of and you were assigned to that account, you will, then, represent Company A and assist customers from the US. The type of support that the call center agents provide depends on Company A's agreement with the Call Center company. If Company A is a manufacturer of modems and the agreement is for the Call Center company to provide Technical support, then, your job as a call center agent is to assist the customers of Company A in terms of troubleshooting modem related concerns.
The salary of a call center agent varies from one country to the other. There are countries where a call center job is considered a low paying job. A friend of mine told me that in Germany, a call center agent only earns about 7 euros daily which is significantly lower than the minimum wage there which is 10 euros. However, there are countries like India, Philippines, Malaysia and many more others where the salary of a call center agent is higher than the regular jobs in those said countries. Since I'm from the Philippines, I know for a fact that the salary of a call center agent is double of that of a regular paying job. In some Call Center companies in the Philippines, the salary of a call center agent is at par with that of an engineer or a government-owned hospital doctor.

To be able to join the call center industry, you need to have excellent English speaking skills either written or verbal. also, basic MS skills is required.
The pay is much better than jobs given by the government. Most call centers pay 15K per month so it is bigger.
