How Can Euthanization at Animal "Shelters" Be Stopped

Recently it was brought to my attention that the South Los Angeles Animal Shelter euthanized a bunch of animals due to overcrowding. I think of how sweet my own cats are and how cute their personalities are. I think it is so cruel that these sweet little animals did not get a chance for their personalities to shine through. I am looking for ideas on how to attack this problem. I want to get a group of people together to either use legislation or come up with new ideas to stop the murder of these sweet innocent creatures. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

I guess get more people to adopt animals. That or support (financially of course) no-kill shelters. We have a couple of humane societies that do euthanize, when pets are diseased or don't get adopted after a period of time. It is sad, but I don't think they are funded well enough to do otherwise...

Thank you for your comment. It is sad and unnecessary. I feel like there has to be a better way to help these babies. We cannot be lax and just say oh well, it happens. More people need to get involved, especially in helping to spay/neuter. It is out of control. Even having 1 animal killed because they are of no use, no value or taking up extra space or a little bit of food is insane in my opinion. More people have to realize the murder that this is, wake up and help!

We can give support real animal shelters that protect animals and don't murder them. If we can support no-kill shelters by donating time and/or money, these shelters can grow and take in more animals meaning less animals will go to the murder houses.
Also, getting homeless animals fixed is a good way to help with the overpopulation that gets so many animals there in the first place.
I agree that something needs to be done. This is an issue that has bothered me for a long time, but like you, I'm not really sure what exactly can be done. A lot of people don't really care about the welfare of animals. So maybe the first step would be to get people to care.
