Sceintists know we need sleep, but they don't know exactly why,and they,ve been pretty clueless about how the brain decides when to sleep some of mystery has been put to rest a new study of mice fine that brain cells called astrocytes fuel the urge to sleep by releasing adenosine,a chemical known to have sleep inducing effect's that can be inhibited by caffenie the longer person an animal is awake the stronger the urage to sleep become this is known as sleep pressure prior studies pointed to adenosin as a trigger sleep for sleep pressure the chemical accumulates in the brain during working hours eventually helping to stimulate the unique patterns of brain activity that occur during sleep.

The amount of sleep each person needs depends a lot on his or her age. Babies sleep a lot but as we get older, the less sleep we need. But it really depends on the individual. Normally, a person who skips sleep becomes clumsy, cranky, and uncoordinated. Without sleeping for days, a person will hallucinate.
