Our mare gave birth to her new colt on Monday this week and although we didnt get to see her give birth, we did get to see the colt stand for the first time. He was so funny trying to stand. He has really long legs anyway and they look too thin to hold him up, but when he first stood he just fell right over. He stood about three times before he actually took his first steps and it was so much fun to watch!
Have you ever had the opportunity to see a horse give birth or see a new horse stand for the first time? It is such an interesting sight and so much fun!

Yes, they learn fairly quickly. Yesterday he was running around the pen and jumping and playing. Lots of fun!

Yes, I have saw many horses take their first shaky fall down steps on their little toothpick legs and then they look up like how'd that happen and stand up all over again. They are adorable. I have also saw a horse give birth on a few occasions. My Granddad owned a horse ranch and I have loved horses from an early age. I have always been around them for as long as I can remember and couldn't imagine life without them.

Jessi, I totally agree! I can't imagine life without our horses too. They are so trusty of us and we learn from them the same as they learn from us. My horse loves me even when no one else seems too. I always have a friend in the barn!

Yes, I have seen them stand for the first time, although it has been a few years. (I live on a farm) Whenever my horses were going to foal, I always tried to be there to see if the mare needed help, and to see the first of this miracle. The first one I ever saw was when I was young and in 4-H for my mare and foal project. I just love seeing their first stand and steps. They are so gawky and awkward until they get their balance. Congrats on your new colt! Have fun!!
