That is ridiculous. I live in Israel were there is always a threat. We have real armed security everywhere and I have never had a pat down. Even on high alert days for terrorists, they don't do it. Security visually assess everyone who passes. Most guards have those metal detector wands to use if they need them. They also check bags. I waltz through or stop to chat in my town because they all know me not to be a threat. Yup, call it profiling. In other towns they half a$$ check my bag. They see by the type of stuff I'm carrying that I'm not a threat. Again profiling. A few high security places have metal detectors that everyone must pass through, but that's only high risk places.
At the prom they should have teacher and school employees to make sure only students go in. That's real security. The folks who work at the school know who's who and who might be dangerous.

I'm with you carmelanirel, seems the safest place to be.
What a joke our country has become. Israel is attacked by terrorist almost every day of the year...and they are still the safest place to be? It's because they REALLY practice democracy, not pretend to.

This is insane. As one commenter said at the link you provided, the "T" in TSA is for transportation. What business do transportation security people have at any prom?!?!?

Why were pat downs necessary in the first place, that's what I"m wondering...

Nothing makes me feel safer than a good groping by a stranger in an authoritative position.

People are profiled by club owners as well. Only at some artist's shows do attendants have to get patted down and searched before entering, even having to take off shoes in some cases. People are profiled all the time. It's ridiculous and the problem is spreading.
