I think many people like to use wifi public to access internet on public corner, coffe shop, library, campus etc. i like it because its free internet access. so we can do browing as long as we can. One think that is often forgotten - Security -. Wou consider about security your personal data?
Let's check some useful information based on my regular activities using wifi public / hotspot.
1. I make sure wifi is legitimate hotspot, if i am not sure i just do browsing.
i never send bank account, sensitive data, confidential email unless i am on secure site and also legitimate hotspot.
2. I always verify that my laptop firewall / antivirus is turned on and also check file-sharing future is turned off. consider too use encrypted session.
3. I always turn off, wifi radio when i am not at hostpot, i think hacker can make peer to peer wifi connection with my laptop and access it directly.
Do you have other experience how to secure your laptop in wifi hotspot? let's share to me..

The only good trick is to use an encrypted connection : your antivirus and your firewall are not protecting your log in informations from hackers, and a legitimate hotspot is not more secure than a not so legitimate hotspot, it may be worst because it is a place of choice to mirror the traffic for a hacker. All my emails are SSL encrypted, and I use internet only with a VPN when connecting a hotspot, so a hacker cannot use my data. Use a VPN client if you want to be completely safe, or, at least, a SSL proxy.
