Why do men not open doors for women, offer them their seat or help them with a heavy load anymore. My dad taught me to do these things when I was younger and I still do. The other day I was in the Globe office and offered my seat to an older women that was standing and I still hold a door open for a women too! Why do we just think of ourselves all the time and forget all the manners that our parents taught us?

They are here jillhill...As a matter of fact, I know the security guards in all the stores here in the Philippines get paid, but they always open the door for everyone and greet everyone. hmmm, maybe they are the unsung heros.

Unfortunately it is dying. I open doors for ladies and give my seat on the bus but that seems like common sense. Those are some of the only ones I know of and do.

It's still there though now more rare. Those of us who still do such things actually get punished for it at times because ladies feel they should do it themselves. It's not always accepted gracefully.

Yes, it seems to be very rare...sometimes non-existant

I believe that it still exists...I mean, I still see men do it here in our country. Even my husband still gives out his seat for old ladies and pregnant women. So don't threat menace730...it still exists.

I guess there are still some guys doing those things which our parents have thought us.These practice are mostly common in the provinces or in rural areas but in the cities where almost all people are in hurry I guess it's not a common sight. There are still some though, but mostly others don't.

Yes Stanley, I agree. I have been to some of the bigger cities here in the Philippines and it is way less common.

Menace, I am SO glad you are still doing these things for women. I am regularly disappointed in the lack of manners in men AND women. It makes me sad to read so many comments from people saying that women will be offended or that we would rather do it ourselves to prove our equality. I am by nature a VERY independent woman, but I appreciate politeness too. I don't think that there is any excuse to not be polite to someone, no matter their gender, age, race, etc. Men, start opening doors and being chivalrous, PLEASE! Believe me, it will be appreciated :)

Thx amango...It's just manners. I have even had women hold a door open for me and guess what...I was not offended...I said thank you. Maybe we can re teach the new generation.
