I have Indian friends, close friends and are real family for almost 5 years now and still going steady.
They're from South India.
Tomorrow they will be spending their yearly vacation to India and we will be having some time with them tomorrow.
I received this saree from Jathi chettan and it takes me time to learn how to wear.
Thu,chechi Ajitha already taught me how to wear it,when i am alone and tried to put it on again...oh my...i am sweating off and looks funny the way i wear it.
Have you ever received a gift from foreign friends?
I know how does it feels...we feel so special, and the thought that counts -matters most (^_^)

Sometimes i do get gifts from my friends or relatives abroad and believe it or not they give me only T-shirts,since they know that i wear these only. So, now my cupboard is full of them and i don`t get a chance to wear them since i never go out of my house.I wear the new ones mostly during the festival of Divali or the festival of lights, because that is the time when people buy new clothes.

@ CTHanum,
Mekhela Chador is a traditional dress worn by women in Assam
Sari is traditional dress too in India also but it partners with peticoat and choli unlike the mekhela chador youcan just wrapped it around you can't see the belly unlike if you will wear a sari
have a great monday

hello CTH,
Actually that is what i am thinking too- how difficult it is wearing a saree and going to toilet.
Maybe difficult when we are not used to wearing it,but i think it's easy for people who used to wear it...
Same thing with other country who wears clothes that seems very difficult to wear for us.
But easy for the other.
thanks for your response and have a great day

Hi jaiho. The saree looks nice and it would go well with matching jewels. Of course, tying the saree is an ordeal even for people here! Times are changing and the present generation is finding it difficult to wear traditional dresses as they are more accustomed to western wear and salwar kameezes. But I am able to wear both traditional as well as western wear.
I do not have foreign friends except in mylot and I have not recieved any gifts either. But one of my sister's friends send my daughter gifts from her kids and it did feel nice to see my daughter's excitement. Yes, you are right. More than the gift itself, the thought is what matters the most.

Yes, who knows what the future holds? That was so sweet of you to send gifts for your friend's daughter. I am sure she would have been delighted to receive them. Thanks for the hugs. It seems I need them more than the gifts nowadays with my dwindling energy.

From the way you refer to them (as Chettan and Chechi), I think they are from the same state as I am :-)
Coming back to the topic, I've got a Ghanian dress from when I visited Ghana in 2001. Though it's a skirt and a blouse with a head scarf, I don't know how to wear the head scarf...and the blouse is in the typical Ghanian sleeves which I'm not comfortable wearing on a daily basis.
But I treasure it and keep it carefully :-)

When two of my forum friends visited with me, from the U.K. they brought me a teddy bear and a tin of Prince Charles Organic Biscuits. I have finished the biscuits but have kept the tin as a memento.
