My sister and I have just talked about this. My sister who is a nurse says that you can find E. Coli Bacteria in feaces. My first thought on it is that the bacteria would have originated from the fertiliser that they used, since fertiliser is from feaces.
Maybe the fertiliser that they used was not processed properly. I think at this time all fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly and to be safe cooked.

It was confirmed, that this strain do not derives from vegetables and fruit, it comes from meat, and this epidemy started from a german restaurant, that's all. In addition, the fertiliser doesn't come from feces, if organic, it comes from animal and human urine, maybe you are thinking about pesticides, or am I wrong?

I am not thinking of pesticides, I am generalising that fertiliser is made from manure. My point is that people should wash the fruits and vegetables that they are eating.

There's a lot of scaremongering going on about this at the moment. It's just a bacterial infection like so many others - though of course it can kill you in this case. The real problem is that it's a new strain of the bacteria, so is hard to fight at the moment.
That problem comes from the overuse of antibiotics in humans (all those people down at the doctor's surgery demanding antibiotics because they have a slight sniffle) and animals - the bacteria grow resistances. On the other hand, there are a good dozen medicines that DO work against most strains of E.Coli and coming up with new ones isn't difficult for our current technology.
UK folks don't need to worry too much:
"the Health Protection Agency is advising anyone visiting Germany to avoid eating lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes, and to seek urgent medical advice if they have illness and bloody diarrhoea within two weeks of being there."
All the cases in the UK are associated with recent visits to Germany. There have been no reports of transmission of the infection in the UK. There is no evidence that any food is contaminated with this strain of E. Coli in the UK.
Keep things in perspective. A little care and attention goes a long way.

Since the E-Coli infection is contagious, spreading only through faecal-oral route, the Govt should spread awareness about the need for the public to follow a strict hygiene regime and avoid eating open cut fruits like watermelon, etc.
The Govt should collect and test Water samples across water sources for possible E-coli contamination.

There is nothing like a good immune system. We face bacteria all the time, even new strains don't effect us much. The people who die are those with other medical problems that have severely weakened their immune systems. Ordinary people have nothing to worry about.

Diseases are becoming rampant this days and humanity is now be overstretched to a tight corner. Despite the rapid advancement in medicine, mankind existence on earth is being threatened. We are presently facing environmental challenges, greenhouse gasses and emission etc where lies the hope for mankind?
Some years back, Britain was having a problem of mad cow diseases a sickness that affects cows and a lot of British cows was slaughtered and burnts and a lot of farmers lost millions of pounds. This was followed by ebola virus in the congo and a lot of people are still suffering and dying from the disease. Now it is now the turn of ecoli and this disease is affecting a lot of crops such as fruits and vegetable. Many farmers in the european union have lost a lot of money.Where lies the hope of mankind? what can we really done to sustain our existence on planet earth? Are we paying the price for years of misdeed to mother earth and mother nature? May God help us all, Amen!
