Facebook question about deleting stuff

I'm not much of a facebook fan, but have a question. If you send a private message to someone..and carry on a "conversation" via this private message way....once conversation is done, if I delete the "conversation" off my facebook page, does it delete it off the person's page that I was talking to, or just mine? Same thing with a post...if I delete it from my wall....does it delete from any friends walls so they can't see it anymore? OR is this a case of watch what you say..."Anything you post never leaves and can be used against you at a later date"?

Wow, that's a great question! I never thought of that, but since more than one person's involved in the conversation, I'm thinking it won't delete off that other person's page. Hope someone who knows will give a definitive answer.
Of course the "watch what you say" rule is always in effect online. It takes a long time for stuff to go away in search engine history.

Hi my52cents - yeah...it is really scarry how LONG things remain in cyberspace! I haven't said anything I don't want repeated...but still... I am not a big Facebook fan in the first place, so I just want to make sure I know what I am dealing with. Jesuriel above answered it..I was afraid that is how it worked! Just makes me all the more sure I made the right decision of not being a fan of Facebook. I only did it cause my GD has one and she plays farmville and begged me to do one so we could talk. I did.... she never talks! Put my other family on there, and no one talks, unless the same ones start a fight like they usually do!

There are definitely pros and cons to FB when it comes to families! Overall, it's a benefit to me, but more for business purposes (through "fan" pages) than otherwise. Glad you got an answer to the question. It makes sense that that's how it works. Now to get family members to be nice! LOL Another challenge!

Hey, there.
These are great questions one should ask. To answer your first question, if you delete the message on your account it Won't be deleted on the other person's account. It's like a text message; you can delete the message from your phone but the other person may save it.
To answer your second question, if you delete a post YOU have made on your wall post or anything else, it will be removed from other people's walls. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Jesuriel...thanks...that is what I thought but was hoping different! Not that I have said anything that I don't want to get around, but still... I am really serious about my life being out there in cyberspace! I hadn't thought about it the same as texting. I HATE texting...so I don't do it much. Thanks for the answers!

It only deletes it from your own page, not the conversation. I agree with you. I like to stay away from things like that, because they can be kept by everyone else involved, and maybe even used against you, one day. Scary thought, if you ask me.

Yeah, scary. Yet look how many put all kinds of personal stuff on their FB walls! And then wonder why terrible things happen to them! I just decided I will keep mine only for the sake of getting coupons. The new coupon wave it so go to the company site, "friend" or "like" their page and then it is posted on your wall for you to print out the coupon. Don't see any other goodness in it!

Hi Coffeebreak, I have deleted few of the private messages and i believe it would delete it off the person's page as well. And if you delete post on the wall, it would delete on their page as well. I checked this and its true.
