Seems like there is a never ending supply of work to do. Our employer makes demands. Our family makes demands. There are relatives wanting you to do things. Have you been working so hard that you are simply burned out??
We all have our limits. Let me tell you how to make it all work out. First, being burned out sets you back because you are tired all the time. By getting your rest, you can get just as much or more done. This doesn't seem possible but it actually works. Take one day in seven and do nothing. Sleep late then make it a day of getting bored resting on the couch maybe watching old movies. You can have the meals cooked ahead of time then warm them up on this day off. Any requests from anyone must be pushed off to the next day. GET LAZY AND BORED!!!
Just the act of getting bored recharges your battery better than anything else you can do. You will be surprised. Go ahead, work long late hours the other six days, but that seventh day is yours to get bored. Let nothing stop that!!
When a person is bored, their mind really starts to think. You might come up with new ideas to organize better. There might come ideas on being frugal where you won't need so much money. One thing I know for sure. You will be much more productive and happier for that day to get bored. Life can be Great!! We must make wise choices. Never just react to life. THINK! PLAN! ANALYZE! There is always a way to make it all work.
So tell me what you think. Share your wonderful ideas to keep from getting burned out.

I am getting bored everyday in my work, does it mean I have a brilliant ideas everyday? I am the queen of laziness, too. So what do you think of me? Am I good at expressing ideas? Am I creating with my thinking? Or am I just as lazy in my thinking as I am lazy in doing things?

Simple. You are doing the wrong thing. Search your soul. Search your heart. What do you really really want to do?? What do you have PASSION for?? Passion???? Yes, you can't wait to get up so you can do it some more. A wise old man told me one time. Search for work that you really really love to do because you will do an awful lot of it.

Hmmm, I wouldn't think that. When I'm bored, I'm really bored. My mind doesn't work that way. Only when I'm active that I start to think actively. It's different for every individual, I guess.

You say when you get bored the mind shuts down, huh? Yes, everyone is different. When my mind gets bored, it starts looking for something to do. Of course when overworked, the rest of being bored is just rest until those batteries start to get recharged.

Well, I didn't say "shut down." It would be impossible to "shut down" the brain since it doesn't "shut down" as long as a normal human being is alive.

sometimes when i need to finish my boss deadlines but never really felt threatened. if that the case surely i would reach certain limit for example when i have little cold or certain illnesses. nobody could force me to over work and i would reason out. some say you need work but you should enjoy it. work to live and you do not live for work. maybe the saying mix of doubts but really need to work the things you enjoy and never get pressure.

Hi bird: Now that I have a full time job I can't do this, at least not as you are suggesting this. But I try to take a day off to do nothing but enjoy a good rest, eat and watch tv once every two weels.

TWO WEEKS???? Come now. You seem smart. You can organize better than that. Work it out. I bet you can get just as much done. I thought most people do have full time jobs, including me. If I can work it in, I know you can. You will be much happier with a lot less stress.

Back when I was still working in the manufacturing industry, I work 12 hours almost everyday. Thank God our Line assembly leaders aren't the screaming types and they don't embarrass us when we make mistakes. Still I got sick of it but at least I've managed to finish my contract. Now being a full time mom to my three year old, I miss going to work and the feeling of a stuffed wallet. I'm really looking forward to going to work again as soon as my son enrolls next year.

Yes, I think work is healthy for most everyone. Maybe this time you can get a better schedule. You are going to still want that quality time with your three year old. They grow up so fast. Smell the roses along life's path. They really hold the most value. Make those memories for all.

Unfortunately, I don't really have the option of sitting around for a day. Even if I really, really wanted to. Even if I planned to do all of tomorrow's errands today, there are still chores that absolutely have to be done, not because I think they have to be done, but animals need fed and watered. If I don't make sure that everyone does their chores, then the chores won't get done and I can't have that.
Even if I was awake and sitting there doing nothing, my mind would be churing over problems. To me, that is not relaxing, it stressing. When I stress, I give myself ulcers so it's better for me to get up and do something about whatever is bothering me.
For relaxation, on the rare occasion that I do get a minute to myself. I prefer to either watch animations or to watch tutorials on drawing. ~L~

There is always a way. Automatic feeders??? Maybe trusting others to do their chores is the best way. Having to stand on their own two feet is what makes a person capable. Provide rewards for good work, consequences for bad. Every great manager knows the word DELEGATE!!!! If you fail to get your proper rest, the cards will fall one day. It's just a matter of when. Besides the end of the world will take more than 1 day. Leave it in great shape then check on it first thing when you are back.

Ah bird, nice topic. :)
Actually, there is one more thing to it all. Have a goal in life. Start working towards it early on life. As you mentioned, work in spasms, but early on life because at that point of time, responsibilities are lower, health is better, reflexes are faster, and fears are fewer. Try to achieve goals by 45th year or so. Then opt for a more relaxed way of functioning. Get some time for thanking god for all that he has let us achieve. We, after all, are better than somebody we know. May be we are better off when compared to many we know. Shouldn't it please us that we are not in their shoes? There must be something that god saw in us and let us enjoy in this way?

Perhaps, I have left making goals out of the picture. I assumed everyone has already done that. Good reply. If one is only chasing their tail going in circles with no goal, it can be exhausting to say the least. Hmmm?? Goals?? There might be a new discussion that can be created on that as well. Thanks Vandy!

It is one of the most common doings of a college student. Getting burned out until there is no more energy to use. I seldom take time to make myself bored and today is the day I call 'rest day'. It's a rest day because it's Sunday. I try not to do homework, either school or what, usually get it done the day before or after Sunday. It's really a calming thing to know that you are in the couch or bed, being lazy and thinking of other stuff. Feeling the warm and cozy cushions. It just feels nice.
