Last night my friend and I were surfing the internet when we just thought of searching our names in Google. We are then surprise that we found our Facebook account and when we try to open it, we can see every information found in our Facebook page where in fact we have set our accounts to be just seen friends. We then try to go back to our Facebook accounts and we found that privacy settings under APPLICATIONS AND WEBSITES was enable for public search. We also found our names in third party websites in which our Facebook accounts was linked.

Hi Kareemadivina, Its true, nowadays FB is giving a fear of privacy issues. And a news about selling our details to third party websites is still added pressure. Its better to be safe and avoid adding more of personal details.

That is annoying if you used the default setting of your account. All you personal information can be revealed to everyone who wanted to know about you. If you are a private person much better to update it before nobody can abuse your account. I updated my account few days after I joined facebook.

Yes, the default privacy settings on facebook are total rubbish. Our Facebook profile get features on search results, and everything we share are visible and accessible by strangers - this is the setting by default. Also, the introduction of apps in facebook has led to many security and privacy issues caused by the loop holes opened up by apps. So always make sure you use highly trusted apps only.

Wow, this really is an interesting note. I've just visited my facebook profile and - guess what? - I have had that option enabled since I created my account and never realized it. I'm quite astonished facebook never asked me if I wanted to change this setting (they're always bugging me with privacy stuff), but so far I'm not worried, since being under 18 I cannot be found with a web search. At least until I turn 18... Thank you for your post, it's really useful and important. I will change my privacy settings as soon as I turn 18, so my private data won't be seen by everyone. Many thanks again and happy mylotting! :)

you have to check your privacy setting bit by bit and untick those boxes which may lead to your privacy exposed to public. In addtion to disable public search, set all your information and wall for friends only and untick the box like check in to location or something like that. You will have a lot to do...but do it now~_~
