Monkey marriage

Last night it was too hot, internet was slow, yahoo messenger was not opening, so I went to roof top, I could see the jungles about 20 kilometers away, the trees on top of the hill were burning, it will keep burning for 2-3days causing so much of heat.
The forest department will not take any action like previous years. There are 2 reasons behind this fire, the leaves, wood pieces catch fire due to mutual rubbing, this is the natural reason; but the second one is, the tribal’s in the nearby villages have illegally occupied plots of land in the jungle, under full protection of corrupt forest officials, they set fire to the jungle, the ash later is supposed to make the land fertile for paddy crop; this they call; ‘Podu-chasa’, ‘Podu’ means burning and ‘Chasa’ means cultivation.
They declare in the villages, that ‘Monkeys’ are celebrating wedding by setting fire in jungle.
What a pity?
So friends, this is ‘MONKEY WEDDING’

Please respond and share your views. Thanks in advance.

Same here, sometimes the internet connection seems very slow in the night. I never heard of monkey marriage until now. Thanks for explaining it in here. It is really pity to hear beautiful jungle being burnt to make ways for plantation. I think those who interested to preserve the jungle, should come forward to settle this problem. If not, in future, your area don't have any jungle anymore.

I never heard a saying like that before! I don't think we have anything similiar here in the states like "Monkey Wedding"! That is weird and I don't like that farmers can get away with burning some of the jungle because the forest officials are corrupt! That is so sad!

What a shame, what a horrific crime! I can't help but think that someday, those people who approved of and/or set these fires will have something similar happen to them or someone that they love. That's how justice works, we don't always see it right away but it's waiting. Some call it Karma.

Hi Professor
I had not heard about monkey marriages until your discussion. Though it may seem like a wonderful and happy event to them, what they are not realizing is that they are wasting such glorious nature. I do hope not too many of the "monkey marriages" occur at once because it would leave for a full destruction of nature in the jungle.
You have a blessed and lucky day too.

hello professor,
the environmentalist should form groups to address this problem if the government seems to have no solution to this.
there should be groups to go to those areas and educate the tribes.
oh dont they realize that by setting the jungle on fire the monkeys leave the jungle?

That also happens here prof. and it has been going on for centuries, we call it kaingingin farming, they burn patches in the forest and that is where they plant crops, really harmful to the environment cause they fell down large forest trees to make way for their crops, that's the reason why people now in the low lands experience flooding and landslides, that's not a monkey wedding, people who practice this this and corrupt government officials who allow this to happen are worst than monkeys
