MIL was talking about how at the senior center (55yrs+) that someone had asked how many of the people there were also orphans? With people living longer and longer she was surprised to see there were people that were not "orphans" there. So I thought I'd pose this question to my fellow mylotters... How many of you are Orphans? How old were you?
I lost my dad shortly before I was 5, so it'll be nearly 30 yrs ago. And my Mom passed away 2 yrs ago so I have been a full fledged "orphan" since then. Though I find it weird to be so young and not have either parent around.

Yes I am an orphan since birth, but not because my birth mother passed but because she did not keep me after her birth. I understand my birth father passed several years ago but did not know him either.
Yes it is weird as I went through the foster care system all my youth years and saw hundred of guardians. But no pitty party here though, I managed to raise two wonderful and respectable kids therefore it was my blessing for my early years.

Good for you HWG! Were you ever adopted or ?
I'm glad your kids are respectable souls just as you are. I only hope I'm that fortunate with my own kids.

You are too kind HWG! I hope those blessings include finances as we are struggling and we have 18mo-24mo's or so before debts are paid and more opportunities for us. Only problem is watching things I'd like to do for my kids pass us by as paying the bills and trying to keep food in the fridge is all we can manage.

No I was never adopted, and I feel you will continue to be blessed. I can tell by how much you speak about the many situations involving the kids and hubby. Truly seems you are all going to really blessed for many years to come.

My Mom lost her EX to drinking a few years after they divorced. Drinking is a nasty addiction among many I'm afraid.

That orphan feeling never goes away, my family is gone, parents and brother and even though I have my own family, husband and children I feel the lost of my childhood family. Lucky are those that still have their parents, brother and sisters.

I understand what you are saying. I will feel somewhat the same when my Aunt and Uncles pass as they are all that is left of a more immediate family on my side.
