I think that a lot of the reasons that people have trouble losing weight, is that they eat desserts after a meal, that might be a meal among its own. Granted, I love desserts as much as the next person. Still its not hard to see where a few of those extra pounds come from, when we eat desserts every single day or even multiple per day.

I tend to think that there´s a lot of country customs with it. In my country what we usually eat for desset are fresh fruits. Here they are unexpensive and we have different fruit the year around. Some desserts have been imported from the US especially. Fortunatly, we can eat those when we go out as noone is willing to go to the trouble of making them at home. I am speaking of pies and other desserts that might be part of the culture of colder countries.
I confess to getting my extra pounds from the time I quit smoking. I ate several kilos of hard candy for anxiety. It wasn´t good for my teeth either. Then it is difficult to slim down.

I think that there is a lot to do with the culture. Desserts tend to be more sweet and savory in many parts of the world. In other parts, they are a bit more healthy. It should also be noted that I really think that it varies in many parts of the country. I think having it every now and then, is more then fine, life shouldn't be all that serious, so what's the harm in a treat. It does cease to become a treat It is just a part of life and perhaps not the most healthy part of life all things considered. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

I believe in quality of life in the sense that having some small luxuries that appeal to you is part of being healthy. I would not want to b counting calories from dawn to dusk. That´s why I´m looselly following the mediterranean diet. I have shed about 4 pounds in maybe a month and a half. Easy does it

There are good and bad desserts. Fresh fruits like oranges, mangoes and pineapples are good source of desserts and they contain a lot of fiber, vitamins and minerals. However, in some countries like mine, the price of the fruits are sometimes exaggeratedly high, such as the apples here. I remember eating an apple that costs around P20, around 50 cents! Instead of having around $1 for a kilo in Brunei (another country ) The bad desserts are usually either the inexpensive ones, chocolates and etc. or expensive but could be preserved in the fridge. One good example is ice cream.

Indeed there are good and bad dessert. Just like there is good and bad food a lot of the time to say the very least. Of course, a lot of people don't consider a dessert a dessert unless it is sweet, or salty, or choclaty or whatever. Which can be debated, something that I disagree. However, eating too much of any food can be pushing it a lot of the time. If you eat an entire bag of apples for instance, that is going to have some consequences if you do that everything. Everything can lead to many consequences. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.

Hi, megamatt. I hardly eat desserts after each meal. I have heard that it is best to eat desserts right after a meal, so that it won't add any weight gain to the body. So, now, I don't know what to really think anymore. I think that if a person chooses to eat dessert, it should be low in fat and low in calories too.

I am currently dieting and have lost 50 pounds but I eat a dessert after lunch and dinner.
These desserts though are all healthy and low in fat and sugar.
I have enclosed a picture of a healthy date and banana loaf that I make which is virtually fat free, low in sugar and calories but full of fibre and viramins.
So you CAN have your cake and eat it!!!!

You can still eat your desserts and not be bothered of the extra pounds you will gain.
Fruits are not only an excellent dessert but is very healthy for our body. You can create low-fat milk shakes, eat jellos or gelatin. You can even add fruit juice or fresh fruit to the gelatin.

Hi megamatt,
I will fully agree with you on this. We can eat a decent size meal, but everyday we tend to always really have a dessert, we seem to crave that sweet thing and it does add to our weight and does make a difference over the week. I have been down this road, i always made sure that i ate a large meal but still later on i wanted and had a dessert, this has caused me to be overweight. Now i am different, yes i am still overweight but it is really rare that i now have a dessert after a meal, and i have also cut down on the size of my meals. I guess i am suffereing from my past, atleast i ghave started to make changes which are better late than never. Even though a dessert may look so delicious and so small, it can make a big difference to your weight in the long run.

Isn't it really funny that the things that tend to be the worst for us, are the things that smell and taste the best for us? I believe that I may have brought up this point in the past, but that is really done by design a lot of the time. There are going to be times where we are going to be pulled in to eat just a little more. For some people, desserts are like a fourth meal or at least about three quarters. Still they taste great, even if they are not so great for our diet a lot of the time. Thanks for responding. Its appreciated. Have a nice day.
