Do You Sometimes Listen to a Song and then Wish You Had Not?

I ask because this sometimes happens to me. Like recently. I was listening to a song about a man withdrawing from drugs. And although it was a brilliant, exciting song, there was a point it made me feel bad, not because of the song itself, but because I was getting too emotionally involved with it. Not because I'm a recovered substance abuser; it was the intensity of the song that got to me. I got too involved with the feel of the song. Do you ever do this? Listen to a song; or piece of music? Get intensely involved with it...maybe because it's deeply sad; or nostalgic; or depressing. And think after...I wish I'd never listened? Let's talk intense songs and their effects on us....yes?

No. I am grateful to Feel anything. It is when I try to experience an art form , be it music or a piece of art, and I feel nothing that I feel sad and empty.Even finding I don't like it is ok. But to feel nothing is worse. Oh Love I hope you have recovered from this experience.

Hi Sarah, yes I recovered fine. What really bothers me is if a piece of art that once moved me leaves me cold. I find that disturbing...

That is how I get wih some songs too. I listen to the words and it either lifts me up or it makes me feel bad. I change the channel, all depending on my mood.

Hi Steph. Yes, I do that, if a song is affecting me badly, I'll switch it off.

I can be the same way as well, and find that my emotions kick in depending on how deeply I concentrate on the lyrics along with the music interludes. Sometimes I can relate them to not necessarily the same experiences but past bad events.

Hi hardworkinggurl...it's true, not all the emotions that kick in through music are necessarily healthy ones.

Oh yeah I do often come across ongs such as these and then make me regret what I've done. Songs can be very impactive and get to a person depends on how relatable the song is to you.

Yes, you are right, songs can be very impactful: they go straight for the emotional centre.
