The football selection of Argentina is not in the best moments. The once great team that can win everything is far away the current matches. As part of the training for the next Copa America that will be hosted by us next month, Argentina has played a series of friendly matches and really got very bad results. This week has fall against Nigeria for 4-1, something impossible to think some time ago, and wasn't only the result, but the play was clearly bad and Nigeria has taught us how to play football. Today at the morning, another friendly match against Poland took place and once again, Argentina lost, 2-1 this time, playing again a very bad match. I know, this is not the usual first line players we can bring and is an alternative team, but being this close to the Copa America, we can't allow such losses. I wonder what can do Brazil to us if this continue this way. What do you think?

Haven't seen the line-up for the last two matches you mentioned. But IMHO, Argentina right now has an unbalance squad composition. They have a lot of (if we're not saying it's too many) great strikers start from Messi, Tevez, Higuain, Aguero, and Milito (if he could show his best performance again). But, I think they're lack of good players in the defense. No big name that I could even remember. Zanetti? Oh, come on. He's over thirties, even though he still could show his best performance. Well, it's just in my opinion... :)

You are 100% true. The "first line" team has a lot of offensive power, but lacks defense, and some center too. No real defense players and most important little TEAMplay makes it hard to compete to anyone. Right now they are only a bunch of players pretending to be THE star, each one playing his own game. And in those friendlies, we played with non titular players, so even worse.

Argentina does not usually do well in friendlies. Should it should not be an issue. But having said that, Argentina usually does well in the qualifying and round-robin. When it comes to the knock out stage, that is where they will falter.

It's quite irregular in friendlies and not good most times it's true. On real matches, they outperform any lesser them, as it's most usual in the groups phase, and then start having problem when facing a real team. I still remember the last world cup, with an excellent qualify stage, a regular match against Mexico, and a disastrous play with Germany.

Not sure what is wrong with this team. I think they probably have some of the best players in the world with players like Messi, Tevez and Mascherano playing for them. And yet they seem to be faltering really badly to teams that are not even top run teams. I think it is more a mental thing rather than anything else. Cheers! Ram

I think Messi is definitely the best player in the world currently, so they are not far from the best. Cheers! Ram

Those players are far from the best of the world. While good they still lack something to fail in such easy matches. My observation is that the team lacks of team play, they all like to be THE star and not to play together as a team. And considering that it was running almost without a coach for the last years until not so long ago makes me think of that.

These games are friendlies and Argentina is missing very important players, I don't think you can measure Argentina by these two games, I also saw Brazil play against The Netherlands as home team and frankly they played a bad game, yet when the real thing comes these two teams usually present a different face.

It's not because just these 2 games, but they are the last ones from a series with not so good results of friendly matches. All them were friendly, I know, and that means both teams will play at a lower performance. But anyway, seeing them lose 4-1 is like an humiliation for them, or at least it should be. Not only they haven't learn the lesson, but then lost again. That's why I fear when the real matches come. At this point, I can't imagine what happens if we meet Brazil.

Well Argentina didn´t have their greates players and currently not even stellar ones in defense are top players(in my opinion). Still if Argentina can make Messi and the rest (Tevez, Higuain, Dimaria, Pastore, etc) play as a TEAM, am sure they can beat anyone. Best of lucks to Argentina in la Copa. I will root for my own country (though I don´t have any real hope of getting through not even the group stage)

It's true that the team was only with local players and far from the top ones we can bring, but nevertheless, it was appalling to see them lose in that way. You've mentioned the key point. They do not play as a team, just a bunch of guys wanting to be stars like in their local teams, but no real team play. At least from the Pekerman era as far as I can remember, if not more (2006 world cup).
