It really depends on how you look at religion. I believe in having a religion but more so, I believe in having a personal relationship with God and I believe that anyone can do that even if they do not have a religion. As for country, it's part of who you are and you can't really turn away from it. Both are very important parts of you as a person, but if I have to choose one, I'll probably choose my country because I believe religions are overrated. That's just my opinion, so... peace!

Ours is also secular country by policy. But, the difference still exists. I'm afraid it's growing every day, thanks to the various politicians who have complicated it.

All the religions speak about "humanity", so I would compromise my religion for humanity.
To me, the country and the rulers are different. I can compromise my religion for my country, but not for the rulers.
To be clear, if the rulers deny any of my rights just because I belong to particular religion, then I will definitely take a stand against it. This may be construed as if I were against the country. (The rulers, sometimes do such things to gain votes of other religion.)

Well said VCV. For selfish and ulterior reasons, some rulers does it. No common man has the discrimination in heart towards his/her fellow humans in large. In fact I am sure that the common man is living in MORE ADVANCED STATE OF MIND, MATURITY LEVEL, SPIRITUALLY EVOLVED and that is why those selfish rulers exisits in some countries around the GLOBE.

For me, Its country. Because, in my opinion, country is a room in GOD's House. Let me say this way. Which place do you like most in your house? Certainly YOUR ROOM. or Your favorite place. Like this, each nation/country is a room in God's House. So, I like my room. Means my country. Religion?...mmm... well its the expression by fellow humans towards the love of god. And God teaches us to LOVE ALL as Humans are a small speck of the Great Ocean GOD-NATURE-SUPREME ENERGY--By what ever name one calls it.

This is a great question since it appears throughout the world as a divisive point.
I think people are too narrow in their definition of their religion. In reality, the way we choose to be governed (if we had a choice at all) is definitely part of our "driving life purpose and morals" which is my preferred definition of religion.
It is a situation where words fail us because there is no good word for the gestalt of our "life focus" if we define religion as narrowly as it traditionally is.
In short, despite what western philosophy tries to pound into us, religion and politics cannot be seperated. If we are forced to give up our nominal religion for our country, we would inevitably try to work our religious values into our lives still. If we were forced to give up our country for religion, we would begin to shape our new home into a political climate we could live with. Inability to do either is what leads to extreme political dissatisfaction and, usually, open rebellion.

Country and religion go together in India. India though it is a secular country mostly Hindu religion practices are followed even by other religion people living there. So both are same. I cannot differentiate. have a good day.

My relationship with God is the most important, as He is the one who has given me the life and knows what is best for all of us. He has the right to have our love and obedience more than anyone else.
I believe that He also has a plan to very soon make this earth to a peaceful pleasant place for all that love Him and their fellow human beings.
Of course I follow the laws of my country as long they aren´t in conflict with God´s laws.
One example - God has told us to love our neighbor and even our enemies, and our country says that we have to take part in a war and kill others, I would definitely follow God´s command, as He can wake me up in the resurrection even if I lose my life because I obey Him.

Hi siliguri, bhalo to?
This is embedded in the psyche of every one - country and religion and problem start from there only.
Whit country and what religion? You and I were born in a place named India which were to be invaded and ruled by Mugfuls and later by the British and by Corruption.
And Paula and Hiccup were born in a big island named Australia but we are same, I mean we share same thing with little differences.
And Religion is most dangerous thing to handle. I would forfeit it if possible long before the flood.

I can't think of a situation where you should make such kind of decision, we are speaking about two separate things. On one side, the country which represents your real life, political situation and social state, together with your costumes and national feelings. On the other hand, the religion is all about your beliefs (and I would add imagination too). The religious ceremonies, myths and rituals you practice in churches and home has nothing to do with your country, you will not leave your country for believing in some "god" or not, as well as you'll never change your thinking about your country because of what your "god" dictates.

I would most definitely choose my religion. As long as we have crooked politicians running the country I need to have my faith in God that he will keep me and my family safe. One never knows when the government will get the country into wars that are not of my choosing. God has been removed from our government and schools.

A true Christian should put God first and everything else, including country, second. However, there should be no conflict, as the bible teaches us to obey civil law and to respect authority.

I have no religion and countries are only man-made invisible lines, so I can't see my self choosing either. I'm not sure what kind of circumstances you are imagining, but really the only one I can think of is war, which is something I don't believe in. So instead of religion or my country, I choose love. Whichever path is led by love is the one I will choose.
So why is it that you would choose your country over religion? What types of circumstances are you imagining?
