present days we can see high inconsistency in women tennis. we don't have a player who is perfectly eligible in top place. we have many legendary players in past but present??? can any one give me the reason why can't we find consistency..... is modeling the main reason which many players choose after getting fame???? or lack of dedication???? or over confidence???? or negligence????

Few decades ago, the scenario was different, women like Steffi Graf & Martina Hingis could win matches even on an off day. Such was the difference in quality between the then world class player and the rest. In the present scenario, there are too many world class players to beat, with that so many factors come into play: 1. Too many close matches take a lot out of players that many deserving players get mentally and physically drained by the time they reach the final of the tournament. 2. The modern day style of play is pretty heavy on the players physically that chances of getting injured is high. Players take in pain killers & other anti-inflammatory tablets to keep playing important tournaments. Thus the injury gets worse, & thus they are forced to undergo surgery. It may take months or even years to fully recover from the injury & be ready to play. 3. You just can't have an off day. Since there are so many good players to beat, you just cannot be out of form a day & still win the tournament. Have one bad day & you will almost always be eliminated from the tournament. I don't see anything like lack of dedication or negligence as the reason. I do believe that the present generation players are a lot more hard working and committed to the field than ever before.. Great Observation.. Good question.

i don't accept because a world class player can be defined mainly by no. of titles they win or how consistent they win the matches in present days either of the quality is missing in players then how can we say them world class?????????????

Actually Woman's tennis has become really unpredictable these days. There is no single dominant force. The William sisters are still around, but no longer the same force. Similarly the Belgian pair of Clijsters and Henin are around but no longer the same dominant forces. Sharapova, Safina, Li Na are all there now and gone now with a hit and miss kind of games. So currently I see a void in the woman's tennis and it is waiting for somebody to step up to the plate. Cheers! Ram

The talent pool has gone so deep these days. No one can tell the other apart, aside from the Williams sisters. As seen in previous majors, upsets even in the early rounds are prevalent and it does not necessarily mean that these players are not trying hard or practicing enough. It just means that nearly everyone has access to the same type of training other players have.

it's true that women tennis is inconsiatant for last decade. today except serena williams no ther player winning more than 1 or 2 grandslam. Serena is also not so consistance like steffi graf was. The main reason I think is modelling. As we have seen Anna, Maria and few others.
