I grew up in a pet store and it was probably one of the best experiences of my life. If I had my way, I'd have one and let my grandchildren help out and learn about the love and care of animals.

How do you learn proper care of animals in a pet store? The cage sizes are usually inadequate and everyone I've known who worked in a pet store saw horrible things with sick animals.
I worked in a pet store just doing photography and saw horrible things in the store. But generally, the true horror is not in the pet shop... it's in the pet mills that the pets came from originally.
How about volunteering with your grandchildren instead at a rescue or shelter? Then they'll learn the proper care of animals and be helping animals at the same time.

I like pet stores that do not sell animals. I will not shop in any pet store that does sell animals.
People think pet mills are only for puppies... but where do you think the other pets come from?
I've heard from former pet mill workers who had seen some horrible things with the small animals that go to certain large chain pet stores.
I see no need to sell animals in pet stores. You can find anything you want in a shelter, and if not, go to a breeder. Pet stores are just out to profit on animals.

first of all we are not in it for profit we truely love animals and I don't see how you can say something like that all of our animals a treated with love and compassion and all of them get taken care of I don't think you have a right to say anything like that unless you have owned or worked one I did not ask for a lecture on pet stores being terrible I just asked if you like them...Yes or No

well first of all I get my pets from licensed breeders who are investigated by the health department and animal control second of all you may have seen some bad places so have I but that does not give you the right to judge my store for that I have a monthly inspection from animal control and the health department and if we were not a nice and clean pet store or if we missed treated the animals we would not be allowed to be opened...

All of your animals may be treated with love and care in the store (doubtful, but IF it were true). But where did they come from? And you're still adding to overpopulation problems in your area by selling pets.
I have worked in a pet store before for your information. I've also taken undercover photos in small pet stores. And I've talked to people who have worked directly in the mills. Don't be so naiive.
If you haven't figured this out yet, you don't ask yes or no questions here.

I go to pet stores, but I always leave feeling guilty for not taking the cool pets home with me. I hate seeing them in cages without personal family love....especially puppies.

we truely do care about what kind of home our animals end up in if we don't think they are gonna give the animal a good home we wont sell it to them simple as that and as far as animals being over populated it is not our fault we dont sell male and female of an animal only one kind like our rabbits are all males and that is all we keep at all times..

That's how pet stores make their money. You feel guilty and bring that sick puppy from the puppy mill home from you. Then they make money and you feel like you "rescued" a pet. While in reality, you would have supported the pet mill if you bought a puppy there.
Better to adopt and not buy your pets in pet stores. Or if you don't adopt, go to a breeder. Buy directly from the source. Good breeders do not sell their animals to pet stores.

Wow angel! Bet you didn't think you would open a can of worms like that huh? Anyway I love pet stores and I don't think pigglies is talking about Australia as I have never heard of puppy mills. In fact most dogs at pet stores are now pure breds that they tell you who the breeder is. Animals are so expensive now also that you don't just buy one on impulse. It is usually a thought about decision.
We also have animal shelters here and when I look for a dog or cat
I tend to go to RSPCA but go to pet store for all their needs.

ok, why shouldn't a child be allowed to have a "living" animal? ....

I think the reasoning on this is kind of flawed.... but how about a pet supply store and then have adoption days there from all types of rescues (not just dog and cat rescues) so that you aren't contributing to over population and pet mills?

I love pet stores. There is a store by our house called, 'Puppies Galore and More'. They have all kinds of puppies you could think of from pugs to Maltese. They are so cute!

We rescue a lot of animals. Right now, I have six dogs and eleven cats. I love pet stores and wish I had more money to spend in them. I always see things I would like to have. However, with so many animals I can't afford to buy many wants, just needs. Good luck with your business.
