I need some help. My computer is slow and Im not sure what to do. I would like to know what can cause a computer to run slow and how to improve its performance and speed. I also would like to know what programs out there are really good to have. Is a registry cleaner really necessary and if so, which is best (and free, if possible- Im on a tight budget, I know, who isnt), do you really need malware/spyware protection or is an antivirus protection sufficient? Which is a really good antivirus or internet security program (preferrably free if possible) that doesnt slow ur pc down (mine is slow enough) and doesnt take up a lot of space? I had in the past AVG, but I got a virus with it so I took it out, then got Avast, no problems there, but wanted to try something new so I got Norton (it crashed a few times and yes, a huge source hog) and I liked it a lot, but was just too big to keep, so now Im back with Avast. If I have Avast, do I really need extra malware/spyware protection? Im trying to keep the programs installed down to a minimum to avoid too much space being used. So Im looking for free programs that are really good basically, and I dont want unnecessary programs installed, cluttering up space, but I want something good that will stop viruses/malware/spyware and get my pc running great. Please help. Thanks.

A program that will really help your computer and does a lot for it is called 360 Amigo. It is free and can be found at www.download.com. My computer was slow till I used this program and I was amazed with what all it could do. I have this on my computer along with the antivirus. It does not really take up a lot of space. My husband also put it on his computer and we love it. Our computers run so much better with this program installed.

hey linda, do u recommend a good antivirus program? Ive used AVG but got a virus before, so Im a lil weary about trying it again, altho my sister swears by it. Also, I tried Norton and liked it, but it was crashing at times and took up a lot of space, not to mention it seems to be overrated. I used Avast in the past and am currently using it, which seems pretty good. Ive never had a virus with it yet (knock on wood). I looked into Kaspersky, but I have XP so I cant use it. Any suggestions? Should I stick with Avast do u think?

Very long description of how to clean up a load of junk on your PC, using only free programs here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2522248.aspx
I don't really want to type all that again.
