is doing away with the traditional light bulbs in 2012. They said that these bulbs cost too much to manufacture. We will be forced to buy halogen bulbs or the cone shaped dangerous energy efficient bulbs. I am not happy about this. I do not really trust halogen bulbs because they get so hot and the cone shaped energy efficient bulbs contain high levels of mercury that could kill a child or pet within minutes. I would much rather buy a traditional light bulb.

I guess what you meant by energy efficient light bulbs were CFLs which is short for Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs. These bulbs do contain mercury, but I don't think it will kill a child or pet within minutes. Besides, the mercury will only poison you if it breaks. So if you are careful enough and don't break these bulbs they are actually pretty safe.
If you are still concerned with these CFLs you should try the new generation of LED lightbulbs. These are more efficient than CFLs when it comes to energy consumption and durability. However there is a drawback with using these lights. The light from these bulbs has a bluish kind of color which sometimes is uncomfortable to your eyes.

The CFLs break very easy. One rolled out of my husband's hand and fell and hit the carpet and broke. I don't think that it is very smart to be doing away with the traditional light bulbs. We only had them because Harcatus replaced our bulbs with them to keep costs down. I will not be buying any of these. They are dangerous to the environment. They may only contain small amounts of mercury but if 500,000 people throw them in landfills that is a lot of mercury.

I have long since changed over both my houses to the new halogen light bulbs. They do not contain any more mercury gas than the old incandescent if they are dropped and broken. The new bulbs last up to 8 years (I've yet to replace an energy efficient bulb.)The old type do not last and they are just a nuisance that has to be constantly replaced. One of the best inventions of our time, in my estimation, are the new halogen light bulbs.

When I first heard about this, I was unhappy about it too. I don't like these light bulbs or the different colored light they emit. I try to buy some of the traditional light bulbs whenever I go to the store.

Oh dear...I haven't been listening to the news lately.
I prefer LED lamps. They are far more energy efficient than the other bulbs available. Besides, LED lamps are cheaper per unit than most lamps.

I hate CFL light bulbs!! We built a new house last year and I tried to put CFL's in all our light fixtures, but I cannot find one that I like. I have tried every single one that our local home improvement store sells. Most of them take a long time to reach full brightness and the ones that say instant on them are not ever bright enough for my rooms. Anyone find a brand of new light bulbs that they like?
