Miami Heat Coach is a Fil-American "Erik Spoelstra"

Erik Spoelstra - Erik is now the NBA's youngest head coach entered the 2008-2009 season, 69 days younger than current New Jersey Nets coach Lawrence Frink. Despite the age, Riley and the rest of the Heat players respects and believes in him to steer the team to the right direction.

Hello Lotters, I am not a Basketball Fan (except in the NCAA, sometimes), it never bothered me about who will win or Loose the match since i don't bet on it and not addicted into players, jerseys, and basketball shoes. But out of curiosity i just decided to watch the NBA finals. Miami Heat is alright, too bad Shaq had to retire who use to be there. but when i saw this coach, it didn't bother me either, until the news mentioned he's a fil-am. That's what i remember back in 2008 that the Coach of Miami is a Filipino-American. that time i think it was cool to have a Filipino coach. He's considered First ASIAN Coach in the NBA coach line. Am i bad only to remember the pinoy coach now that he's leading a TEAM to the NBA Finals? * this serves as an inspiration to ALL Filipino coaches here...... He is not only the first asian to coach in the NBA, he is also the first asian to coach in the NBA Finals. At the end of the Dallas Mavericks-Miami Heat 2011 Finals series he could be the first asian to win an NBA Championship. He has undergone a lot of scrutiny throughout the season, but he has outlasted them all.

Hello shattered, and just as i thought racism and discrimination had been out of that country.if he's fired then let them, the person isjust doing his job. he didn't go there just to work but also to win. but i could understand the hard core fans they were experiencing some fears because of the new coach. i hope they can make it better for them to win

Pat Reilly Isn't a FOOL when he chose Erick, otherwise, why blame him when they can blame pat in the first place. people are just dumb to think he's superman of some kind. If miami doesn't win it's all because of the lack of support and that racism thing

It was really about racism. Actually Dwayne Wade had a lot of confidence in his coach and he was one of the reasons why Chris Bosh and LeBron James were drawn to Miami to play with Wade under Spoelstra. It was actually the media which questioned his ability to handle the pressure of coaching 3 high profile NBA Superstars as a new coach (2 seasons old) with no playoff series win under his belt and no NBA playoff success either as a player or a coach to speak of. But he held his own and has garnered the respect of everyone around the league. It also helps that he has the support of Dwayne Wade and the legendary Pat Reilly.

Honestly I'm more of a Celtic fan, however when I see Filipinos or people with Filipino bloodline and they make it big in any field and they acknowledge their pedigree then it make me proud and go all out to support them. I also salute countries that molded them to become that way, in this case the U.S.of A.

Louievill, Unfortunately, am not sure though if he's going to make it to the finals, they lost it today. it's nice that they are going to have a chance to win it. i hope he makes his players play nice and well planned despite of the results. i guess there's a chance your time will make it next year

Maybe just being there is reason enough to be proud of, just being a coach in an NBA team even if it's a cellar dweller is enough to be proud of, an NBA team can beat most National teams even if it's the lousiest cause that league has the cream of the crop, enough reason to make us proud that a Fil-Am is coaching one that has reached so near the Championship.

This is a great honor for the Filipinos indeed. It's because basketball is a craze in our country and to see a Filipino to actually be in the NBA would be a great honor. Unfortunately, there are rumors about Coach Spoelstra being evicted from the Miami Heat if he's unable to deliver them to a championship ring this year. Let's hope that it's not true.

Hello xtedaxcvg, Too bad for the players if they think small on their coach, no wonder i think they won't win this season if they don't at least listen to him.if they fire him, then let them, am sure if he goes to the philippines, he will be getting a lot of offers from different people in the PBA sector

I was very surprised when I read this at the Yahoo News. I am very proud that he acknowledge his roots. I felt empowered as a Filipino knowing a fellow kababayan made it to NBA as a Coach. More power to him and even though he coaches the Heat - I still root for Dallas to win the finals.

Hello totally-undecided, You must be happy now they have win this game. though i feel proud, it's really sad that he's facing a lot of scrutiny and racism against him. they are not so united because they don't have confidence of their own coach.it's nice though but some filipinos aren't for miami, just like you for Dallas

Hello matersfish, They are ALL talented, it's too bad though that my government doesn't care much about it. like charice who only got recognized by the local network when she got interviewed and known in Ellen and Oprah Show. it's sad that other nations intend to destroy it. i feel happy for that coach, it's an inspiration

I really like Spoelstra's team. They're really great. Go Miami! I just started watching basketball this year since I am not also a fan of the game. I have enjoyed watching the first few matches so I've decided to watch the other games. Anyways, the first time I saw Spoelstra, I knew that he is Asian. What surprised me is the fact that he is half Filipino.

Hello mabeldaclan, Yes, their games are really exciting, i never really thought that Dallas can reach this far. though i see toughness in Miami, but it's not as strong because of their Issues with the coach. yes, he's asian and a filipino. my brother had been a greatest fan, most specially during those times just like when the BULLS became champion
