I do not know exactly how the expression "good luck" is used in your place but I notice that the expression has come to mean differently today. When one is in a difficult situation which seems to have any impossible solutions, some people will tell the person "Good luck" to mean that the person will never be able to find any solution to the problem. The expression has taken on a negative meaning in our area so that when somebody wishes you "good luck" in whatever you are doing, it seems like the person saying the expression has not trust that you will be able to successfully achieve your goal. The expression reeks of condescension coming from someone not believing in your capability. In fact, I hate to hear this from people.

I have an experience on both situations. First they really wish me all the best while the rest are using it to look down on my capability. i don't care as long as I know my capability their wishes always be in the positive way. It is better to take it in the positive side than thinking of the other side. So you will feel motivated to it and not feel down. So if anyone ever say good luck to you just assume that they really mean it~

For me it is kind of wish from my friends, students, relatives, 'good luck' and 'best of luck' they usually say, but the later one has more weight i think. Thank you so much for sharing Enjoy life to fullest. Professor ‘*^Bhuwan^*’. .

I think what you meant is that people are saying good luck in a sarcastic manner. Yes, i have experienced this before. Like when i am receiving my test results, i was always in the bottom, and my friends would be like, good luck, dont die. The word have not changed, just the people. However mostly, when i receive from people telling me good luck, its mostly sincere. Sometimes when you think people are being sarcastic, its only you, and they might actually mean it.
