I agree with 'itrytoplayguitar' on that one. Toward the end of Kurt's life there were clear signs of him trying to jeopardise his career. However, I think from the very start he was always uncertain about becoming famous because he absolutely loathed the attention, much like Johnny Depp did and possibly still does. In my opinion, it all became too mch for Kurt.. but this is fairly controversial, I don't believe he killed himself.

I am a fan of them. It's amazing how intense their music is. Kurt also has this uncanny ability to string chords of different keys together and make them sound like a song! He has also has this genious ability to channel what he really feels in his song, be it angst, depression or etc.
But I don't think they will go any more famous then they did if Kurt was still around. Towards the end of his tragic short life, there are signs that Kurt is trying to tear apart his fame. He's known to be quite anti-fame. All this fame thing probably cause the depression that he is suffering at the end of his life.
