The Japanese make all the cool anime that i actually will watch but we have to wait for the english sub to come out for the shows we are really interested in. I wish there was a cool anime that the US made. Is there some law that says that Japanese people get to make all the cartoons. No offense to the writers of the US anime like the Rugrats. But come on! The Japanese come out with some amazing creature with 50 tentacles trying to kill everyone and then we have a show with talking babies....
I would like a cool anime that airs on the television that is decent to watch. One that has no life lessons in it and is just pure action! Does anyone agree with me?

Do you want to know the reason why good anime is made in Japan, well that simple, if it's not Japanese it's not -Anime. The the only thing you can call to those animation outside Japan are cartoons. If it's not made in Japan it's nothing that cartoons. Only Japan creates anime. It's their Legacy, it's an export that feeds their economy. Anime it is Japanese, Japanese is anime. If it's not from Japan you can call it-Anime.

This isnt entirely true. You could say that if it isnt from Asia it's not anime, Korea, and China also have anime. Dont really like China's anime, but Korea has some good stuff.

"anime" is a Japanese word which is adapted from the English word "animation". There are many Japanese words which are adapted from foreign languages.
So for that reason, you can't call animations made by Korea or China anime.. They have their own terms. For example, cartoons made by the Chinese are called "dong hua".
I agree with CaptAlbertWhister... only animations made in Japan are called anime.

Hi cole!
I think there are other cartoons aside from baby-themed cartoons. There's Ben 10, Powerpuff Girls, X-men, Spiderman, all the marvel superheroes, and all other cartoons full of action.
But I agree one hundred percent that animes are much cooler than cartoons. I actually like animes better than cartoons. Much better animation, graphics, and the plots range from common to really out of this world. I don't think cartoons can ever be something like animes. They will always be forever be totally different from each other.

Then maybe you can learn the Japanese language so you don't have to wait for the English sub/dub. I love Bleach, too.

Anime has GOT to be one of the things invading our shores today. My youngest brother, daughters ALL love it; then to my surprise, I find that there were some 5th to 8th graders at the church school I help out at times who enjoyed it too. some even told me how they want to go to Japan and work for them. I had to tell them that if you want to get involved, yes to see how they do things, check them out but eventually, get into your mind to make up your own. I pray that stuck in their minds.

that sounds good; seems like she found her calling if she's really checking it out. to be honest, what we know as comic books here, I don't see that any longer like when I was a kid; I see manga. while I have nothing against it I am also the type to say well, do for yourself too so i hope your friend starts doing it too.

yes, I like anime too. And anime i think short for animation, am i right. But of course if you read it in japanese, if im not mistaken is animeeshon..i think they make it short it and they called ANIME which makes a trademark for the Japan. Their way they create characters in japanese anime is so nice and cute.

The definition of anime is Japanese animation, so animations not from Japan are referred to as cartoons. Rugrats is not in the same category as anime since it is meant to appeal to little kids. If you don't enjoy those cartoons then watch something more appropriate for your age. The Japanese do have a knack for producing very interesting stories though. The U.S however is adapting by bringing in anime and dubbing them into English as you can see with Naruto, Dragonball, Bleach, etc. The only problem is that the voice actors don't sound right when playing their characters on U.S television

See I would think though that if we bring so much economy to them that they might and i just voicing an opinion they might start just making them in english! but i think if i was making an anime i would make it in my own language too so i guess saying that isnt very fair. I just want my anime quicker!!! naruto is a pretty good anime except naruto is a little young in the beginning. i wish there was a way for me to auto learn japanese and then move to japan and stay there until i was bored with it and come back haha

Hi! I am a big Japanese anime and manga fan myself. And I agree that they create many of the coolest stories. And I also agree that they are called anime because they originally are from Japan. :) Basically, aren't they all cartoon animations? but because they come from different origins/locations that they are called differently. And what makes Japanese anime stand out among the very many animations around the world is, as what is evident, their cool and interesting story lines and characters. :) For me, as long as the animation has the interesting plot and characters, i would definitely watch it regardless of whoever created it. :)
And there is one american animated television series by nickelodeon that is really entertaining and cool that i came across with. It's entitled Avatar:The Last Airbender. It takes place in a world where the people can control the elements and are called benders. and the person who can control all elements is called the avatar. it's a entertaining story about friendship and saving the world. It has comedy, action and romance. :)

I love anime and I have to agree that it's usually more interesting than American cartoons. A long the same line of thinking I believe that manga is much more interesting than an American comic book.

western and eastern animation are a totally different level, western animation focuses more on comedy, while there are some that aren't like Aeon Flux, Thundercats, and whole lot more. Western animations like any with marketing and audience in mind, focuses more on what the kids like, so we are left with cartoons like rugrats, spongebob etc.
Eastern animation starts its humble beginning as a manga, and from how the manga sells or popularity that is when they become an anime. If you look at other anime genres you'll find that there animes that are quite similar in terms of audience compared to western animation.
