I can't find a free app for my phone.

I have a 3g iphone, my daughter has an android. I don't anything about this stuff except she has a free app and can download all kinds of music for free. I, on the other hand can't find squat on mine. I find all these apps for music but it's for like ringtones, and if the app is free for music, the music isn't free. Can anyone advise me so I don't have to filter through all this stuff?
