She's been asking for high heels for a year now but she is only 11 years old. This week is her graduation from the elementary school and next year is middle school.
So I finally gave in and bought her a pair of white pumps to go with her graduation dress. The heel is not very high but high enough. Its officially a pair of high heel shoes and she's so excited. She puts them on every day when she gets home and wears them around the house. Gotta wear them in for Friday!!
Its actually been kind of fun, I do love shoes. Does anyone remember their first pair of high heel shoes?

Might as well torture her as early as possible. High heels are the tight corsets of this era; self-inflicted punishment for feeling inferior. Get her a leather mini-skirt, 3 lbs of make-up and a top heavy surgical enhancement and she'll be all set to bitterly hate herself in 30 years.
Was that too negative? I can never tell with the truth.

Thank you for reminding me of my days when we longed to wear high heel shoes and in fact we would put on our older siblings' shoes when we were hardly five or six and walk about in the house and needless to say would trip here and there much to the annoyance of mother who was more concerned that we would injure ourselves. My sister and I were into this!

lol, welcome
when my oldest daughter was barely over a toddler stage I was always picking up shoes all over the house because she kept dragging them out of my closet to play in them!

What is amazing is that children no matter which part of the globe they come from they all have same interests!

Gosh yes I do remember and oh boy it was the start of my obsession with heels. I love heels and have sooo many, lol
Hey Congrats on her graduation and hope you all have a wonderful and happy time. That is a good idea that she use them in the house as this way she can break them in and feel comfortable for the big day.

Mine were after i graduated high school. They were black simple sandals ( i still have them in red).My feed were slipping down, they were so hard to walk in them but very hot! I wore them each night in disco. I met cute Italian the first night :) I miss them! They fell apart one day at work so i had to go back home bare foot. It was so funny :)

I had one that age too!!! The funny thing is that my father was the one who bought a high heeled shoes for me, mom being very conservative wasn't so sure it would be okay to let me have it that young but she relented and I was hooked with high heeled shoes ever since!!!!
Though, I've learned the hard way not to use too high heeled, when shopping/malling...it hurts
She really needs to get the hang of walking in heels...

As I recall, my first high heeled shoes came when I was already in High school, about 15years old for our Junior-Senior Prom. It was only about 2inches and I didn't really like wearing those kinds of things because I wasn't really the girlie girly type of a girl. I was more for comfortable shoes, mostly flats.
I guess I started really looking into shoes, high heeled and straps when I was already in my last year in college and when I started working.
Now, I'm just addicted to them, but have not really gone for 3 inches. I'm big-boned so any attempts to get into those 3inch-heels with point would give me much problems when I come home.
I think I only have one pair of 3inch heels and the rest are about 2inches. I think all-in-all right now I have about 4 heeled shoes and a lot of sandals and comfy shoes. I guess when you're older, it's no longer about the fashion much, but more on the comfortable side.
I do still wear those things though when I'm in an important meeting or presentation. I think high-heeled shoes just makes one look really sexy and sleek.
How about you? When what your first?

hi defideddi oh yes although I am in my mid eighties I sure do. I was a freshman in high school and my mom gave in and let me have my first pair of high heels. I had quite a time just walking in them. I never really did get all that hot about them. I ended up as an adult with lower heels and stayed that way.Now because of an old foot injury I have to wear special orthopedic shoes with a brace for my left foot. I have no idea why these companies have to make them so ugly. even people who have to wear special shoes should have a choice of getting something stylish in my
opinion. I love pretty shoes too..

I know just how you feel. I am a lil bit overweight (don't usually admit that online) and they always make my size tops so ugly. Always big big circles or large patches of weird reds or odd colors, huge bold flowers. Nothing ever lacy or just pretty. Thanks Ms Hatley!

Aww. I remember when I was that age. I used to walk around the house with my mom's high heels. To this day I can't walk properly in heels lol so I don't wear them. I stick to sneakers and flats. My first heels may have been around that same age. I can't remember exactly when I got them. I was more of a tom boy when I was younger so that wouldn't have been a memorable event for me lol. I remember that they weren't too high though. I think they were black suede shoes. Well, they were kind of high, but they were more of a wedge I guess so they didn't really hurt my feet. I'm not even sure if I'm remembering correctly, those may not be my first but they are the ones I remember.
All of my high heels weren't too high though. They were age appropriate. It disturbs me to see little girls wearing high thin heels that look like they should be made for grown women. It actually amazes me that some of them can walk better in them than I can though lol.

Awww..hmm i guess i had mine when i was in high school.. but it was more like a thick heeled shoe..not really high heeled stiletto because i was in a private school and we have a uniform that also requires black school shoes.. so i got my "real" stiletto in college hahaha.. My daughter is pretty much excited of wearing one! she is still 6 and she also sees me wearing high heeled shoes in the office and i know how much she also wants to wear one! but i told her to wait and she will eventually get to wear one.

Well, as long as she practices how to walk with her high heels, it is okay.
However, i hope she wears high heels only on special occasions, because high heels is not advisable to wear at all times specially at a very young age.
My first high heel was when i graduated in College. Since then, i wore high heels already specially when i go to work at the office.

I'm not really very fond of heels... I prefer flats hehehe. =P I think flats are more comfortable than heels.
But back in high school we had a certain uniform that they required us to wear together with heeled shoes. Only half to 1 inch but still... =P
Basically, unless it's required, I choose flats over heels. Hehehe.

My daughter who is only 7 sees most of her friends wearing high heels. Although they may not be the adult high heels, they are high enough. My daughter begged for one. So, for her piano recital, I brought shoes with a little heels. Although she is very excited and loved her heels, she refused to wear them after a few time because they hurt and she keeps tripping on them. That kind of reminds me of how I feel when I put on my heels. Although I love heels, but I can't wait to take them off after a few hours because heels hurt.

yea they do hurt. Reminds me of the saying about experience being the best teacher. We can tell them not to rush into this stuff and these heels are pretty but gonna hurt their feet but they are going to want them anyway. Then they see exactly what we're talking about!
