...it's rainy and the streets are flooded again...

One of the mercies in living in the province is that my family and I are living in a higher surface compared to a metropolis city like Manila. Every single time that there is a heavy downpour or a storm itself, Manila is always on the threat of being flooded. Along with the dready flood, there is the garbage problem in the city that often ends up in the wrong place and never goes away. I can't help thinking that some of us haven't learned the lesson since Ondoy. Ondoy might be a freak of a storm but I thought that it exposed the problem of dumping garbage carelessly. My family and I were kinda traumatized after that event, even though we weren't living in Manila (another reason why my mother doesn't want me in that place) and I thought many people are too. It seems that Ondoy and his/her lessons, in many people's minds, haven't sunk in yet. I hope that I am mistaken as we don't want another tragedy. What do you think can be an effective way to solve this garbage problem?

its not that garbage is carelessly thrown everywhere. Filipinos have learned about this already how ever the lack of enough land fill to trown it in and the lack of facilities to recycle or make use of them is the problem and we dont alsop have programs to facilitate having products that are biodegradable. and because of this garbage tends ti pile up more than we can dispose them.

Maybe you're right. some might have learned proper waste management after the Ondoy incident and the garbage disposal system may have been at fault. i hope that I am wrong in assuming that we didn't learn any lesson form Ondoy. Nobody here would want that incident to happen again.

garbage will always exist because people consume too much. if only we can recycle and avoid plastic, it will at least minimize waste. of course, nothing beats the self-discipline that we Filipinos don't have. :(
