Would you try cicada-flavored ice cream?

A report on the news this morning mentioned that an ice cream shop was selling cicada-flavored ice cream. For those that don't know a cicada is a bug and in the link they show a pic of one http://www.ky3.com/news/ky3-health-department-tells-cicada-ice-cream-seller-to-cool-it-20110607,0,5474733.story I don't think I would eat it. However, in many parts of the world cooked insects are not that unusual. So I wonder if there would be a way for the shop to continue to make this treat and it not get poo-poo'd from the local health department officials?

apparently, cicadas are very tasty when they are young, before they get their hard shells I read about this one guy who would go out and "harvest" them right after hatching and freeze them so he would have them in the times between large hatchings... personally... ick

I dunno about storing them either. But you know like little kids if you hide something good for them in their food they'll eat it so that's how I figure this ice cream took off. Or maybe it's a big thing to eat them there?

I would not want to try it. But the way things go, if the Health Department did not shut them down, PETA probably would. It may eventually come to where we are eating insects, but right now, I am not interested.

I don't think that they really put real insects in the ice cream..do they? I'd never eat that either. I'm not really adventurous in eating, if I want to eat a different flavored ice cream, I'd rather eat the veggie ones.

Oh no, no, no, lol anything linked to insects would be a definite no for me. Usually anything new that I am going to eat and or taste I have to know all the details of what it contains before I indulge in any of it. I would be shocked if the health department would allow something like this. Perhaps not aware but sounds like this would be something they would have stopped in an instance as soon as they heard about it.

hi 3SnuggleBunnies while I really loathe and detest corndogs which we seem to get here on the weekends I would even eat that before tasting ground up bugs in my ice cream. yuck ville for sure. Have people suddenly gone mad? I do remember when we lived in Arizona we were out one night and peple were collecting grasshoppers that were clinging o the warm buildings. we asked them why and they said " oh they are delicioous fried in some olvie oil." Okay to each his own. as cicadas are vile little noisy creatures that can shatter your nerves on a still night in the country with thier loud continuous non stop chatter. so good that they grind them up and put them in ice cream since I willnot be eating it any way. aa few less noise makers, for sure.lol

Well I don't think I would but the other flavors in the ice cream sound good. I guess the fact that you probbaly could only taste the bit of crunch or goo in the bugs theselves is what was so appealing. I just, nah I don't think I'd do it.

EWE! This is actually the talk around where I live since I don't live very far from the city that the ice cream was being sold in. Honestly, I don't think I would want to try it and it makes me wonder how many people actually did try it! I know these little bugs are about to drive us all crazy. They are extremely loud and they kept coming into the factory I work in today and it is annoying having these bugs bug you! LOL

I don't think that this flavor would appeal to me at all. Even the name does not inspire the craving that ice cream brings my way. Bugs and ice cream just don't mix in my world.

I am not sure that my head would let my mouth taste cicada flavoured ice-cream. I have seen chocolate covered insects and deep fried insects but I have never been tempted to give them a try. Though I have seen people obviously enjoying their insect snacks. :D
