All you say is true yet fear also has limits. There is healthy fear which keeps us safe and motivates us. Then there can be irrational fears. Some people have catastrophic expectations and are afraid of things that will probably never happen. Balance and moderation in all things is the wise way.

A good way of overcoming fear is to do something that you are scared of.

I kind of disagree. Fear is always negative. It creates boundaries and doesn't help people reach their destination. They don't enjoy the journey. But, pressure is a good thing. I mean, positive pressure. Positive pressure helps you out and not negative.
Fear makes you lose confidence, obstructs your flow of work. It finally cuts down upon your achievement.

"Fear is the curse of man" .- Dostoevsky ...
and yet each of us feel, in one way or another. Sure it can be seen from different viewpoints, like any other subject. Fear pushes you quit, you hold back, limit yourself. Perfect really. But passing over all this, this feeling is not only a manifestation of protecting ourselves, in the absence of other means? A simple emotional reflex that do more harm than good most times .. ? Indeed, the most useless emotion, but we should put a question mark about its usefulness when we think that crazy people do not express this feeling almost never. So, how to associate fear with the loss of reason when irrational people just missing it? My opinion is that there are many types of fear, and some of them we need. There is a natural fear, which manifests itself in the same way as sneezing or other habits. When you sneeze, cold, and we know that we treat in time for the disease to progress (of course, does not mean that every time you sneeze you have to prepare the boxes of aspirin). For example, we are on the edge of a precipice and we are afraid that we must go in goal, even if we want to look more closely as below. Like the first type of fear acts upon us. Tempers us and help us to judge better and protect us, in some cases. Another is fear that you must control it and to dismiss by reason, namely that you limit. What if scientists would be trying various methods and substances to find the cure for various diseases, for fear of failure? How many times have you heard 'I do not want to wonder the rest of life' as it was when. .?''or 'if not ventured, nothing gained! " ? These are the 'magic formula' that works nearly always.
