How can I stop writing when I'm sad?

Has anyone been in my feet, writing only when you are sad or stressed up? Finding it hard to write a nice story when you are in happy moments? I know it is a worst habit, but I have no idea how to end it. I have tried to find help in forums but unfortunately, none has given me a hint on how to quit my worst habit. I know its wrong but it has full control over me.

Hi waflay, To be honest, I see nothing wrong with it! :-) So what if you do your best writing when you are in a certain mood? I am sure many artists have certain moods they work best in! For example, some famous painters only paint when they are angry! It's what makes their paintings so unique and strong works of art! :-) Why stop? I don't think you need help. Embrace it! :-)

Also, writing in a journal or writing poetry when you're upset, depressed, sad, etc... is very good therapy! :D It helps let everything out so you're not holding it all in. :-)

Why do you want to stop writing if you are sad? I feel that writing when I am sad can help me a lot in healing. I mean if you get to pour out your thoughts that way, you can feel a lot better after that. Reading your own words will make you understand your sadness and how to deal with it effectively. So don't stop to write when you are sad. You don't have to show it to anyone else. I love to write when I am sad, and also when I am happy. It's the touch of emotions that can make people love to read what you are writing about.

Your words are so encouraging and I can feel them having impact in my writing life. I never write directly as to what I feel or the situation at hand that made me go down, I write stories or poems with hidden meaning- directly opposite of the real situation. Writing heals my sorrow and its the only way that I trust to lay off my stress.

I am surprised at your habit of writing very well when you are stressed up. I think most people are at their best when they are feeling very happy. Yours seem to be the opposite. How long have you been having this trait? You need to find ways of making yourself very happy so that you will not rely on writing to manage your stress. Just everyone experience this low feelings but it is up to you to find better ways of managing it.

I'm constantly stressed out or plain pissed off when I write. Maybe that's why my stories aren't happy, but I don't really care about my stories being happy because I'm a horror writer. Even so, I don't understand why you wouldn't write when you are stressed out or sad. Writing normally helps releave some of that tension. It doesn't mean that you have to show the writing to anyone, in fact, you can delete it if you want to. So why bother stressing about your writing? Get the sad/stressed out of your system and then go onto more happy stories. My 2 cents.

I'm a writer too and I find myself doing the same thing sometimes, I've got alot more to say with a broken heart or stressful situation motivating my words. I often wonder if that's not a bad sign, but overall I'm proud of all of my work because it's raw, and writing my emotions on paper plays a major part in my getting through a tough time. Don't take this as a bad thing! If your writing is your outlet, then let it be and appreciate the sincerity of the work you create :)

Thanks, now I know I'm not sailing in a lonely boat of 'down-hearted writers'. I appreciate for your advice.

Hello waflay. I think writing when you are sad is a very good way to eliminate your sadness. I have all the time a piece of paper near me to write something. No mater if I am sad or happy. Both are human feelings. Of course I preffer to be happy too. Now just think, when you write something, that your text can be read from others or listen to others. I think more useful to eliminate stress is to listen somebody reading or even to read with voice something. I discovered that reading with voice and listening others could be a very pleasant time or anti stress. I believe is important to write and same time to write something which others can listen or read.

Doing all the writing when you are sad is not a bad habit to my thinking, cause that way so can speak out what you feel and what you want to do. The main thing is now how to end your sadness, not how to end the habit of writing. If you re-read your own writing surely you would know what you want and what need to be done to end the sadness.

hi for me you don't need to stop writing when you're sad, i think it is the best moment so that you can express more feeling and more ideas when you are sad, just like a writer when you a read a book , you can determine the character what they feel, if they are happy, sad or depressed, and then you can tell maybe the writer of this books are sad, sometimes are emotions contributes on what we do, specially in writing, you can easily express your feelings....so keep on writing even you are sad, or happy
