Do you often forget ...

Hurricane Charlie - I took this picture before hiding, when it began to rain. This was a hurricane in August 2004 and passed very near Disneyworld.

to bring back part of your belongings when travelling? I´m usually very careful so as not to leave anything behind. It makes me mad when that happens. So I start packing one day ahead and I check and check again the most important things. But once I left a whole drawer full of clothes. Years ago, I went to Orlando alone. One of my nieces who lived in Miami left me at the resort and we had a lovely day shopping as she was coming to take me back the next weekend and weñd have a couple of days of leisure. But then, as I wwas alone, a hurricane came by. He was called Charlie, but had nothing romantic about him. I cooked everything just in case electricity had problems (I did not have electricity for a day) and took care of some of my belongings before hiding in the bathroom. My niece came to pick me up the next day, but she said we´d have to run back as there was heavy rain, fallen trees and the like. I put away everything (I thought), gave the poor girls a meal and we started out. When we reached Miami I discovered that I had left behing my best underwear and my new shorts. I miss them to this day. Have you had such an experience?

I've left a few things, but on the whole I've never left much - granted, I've never been run outta town by a hurricane either... We had a close call in Kansas about a tornado, but it came to nothing, and we barely even got any rain!

I think that´s the only time I left so much behind. But being in a hurry is a sure way to forget things. That´s why I left behind so many things that time after the Charlie. It´s freaky to have to pack in a hurry , in another country, while the rain pours and some palms are fallen.

I bet! I'm glad I've never had to face that! Now, the roomie and her mom were on a cruise last fall and they didn't make a couple of the ports because of a hurricane, but they also didn't leave the ship!

Hurricanes can be awful. I remember that day at Orlabndo. I watched the news with one eye and read the Da Vinci Code with the other. They kept on explaining the magnitude it was reaching. I shivered just to think of it and was alone ther

I am away in Yorkshire at the moment. Coming on this trip I fogot to bring many clothes for myself. I also forgot a bottle brush, washing up luquid, a plate, a cup, a knife, fork and a spoon. I lost a lovely silver bracelet on a train on my way from the airport to my home. That had come from Colombia. I went to the lost property but it wasn't ever found. I miss it and am not able to get another. On my trip around the world I left my dressing grown on an island. I got a message at the airport in Fiji. I was so delighted to get my dressing gown back. Later on that trip my dressing gown stayed safe when all my washing on the youth hostel washing line gor stollen. I still have that lovely dressing gown. Hug.

Hi maxine, I see you have lost a lot more things than I have. But then, travelling with 2 children is very difficult. I imagine that my hurricane Charlie is nothing as compared to that. It is a pity you lost your bracelet. It is not only the price you paid for it, but all the added importance. HUGS!!!

I can't say that it has happened on vacation, but when I came back from China, I only brought what I would need for a short trip because I thought I would be returning in a month. I had to go and buy more short sleeved shirts and sweat pants because I had left all of my summer clothes behind and it got warm not long after I got here. I'm hoping that my niece will bring the rest of my clothes when she comes back in August so I don't have to buy more clothes. Oh well...

The worst part of it is that I don't have a lot of money to buy new clothes. I thought that I was only going to be gone for a month and it wasn't until after the surgery Jan 14 that I realized that I wouldn't be able to go back. It really devastated me to know that I was going to lose my job, but like you say, health comes first. Have a great week!!!

Hi Deb, I think that there are reasons to leave clothes behind. The hurricane was a good reason for me. And yo have to have your chemo. Clothes are not important. Health is.

I am usually very careful about packing my stuff too. I do a walk through two or three times before I leave the room when I travel. Once I was on a business trip and overslept..I had like 10 mins to get up and out to the van..lol..I ended up leaving my jacket. My jacket! Anyway..I called the hotel and they sent it to my office..that was nice. I thought it was gone.

You were lucky! Not many people recover their belongings. I didn´t even try it in Orlando because it wasn´t worth it to go back and get it.

Each time i travel, i will scan thoroughly before leaving. I don't understand it. Somehow, it still happens that I might forget a thing or two. Maybe I hid them too well. Otherwise, I should cancel out the word "thoroughly" from my first sentence. LOL...I am sure many people have such experience, and I am NOT blaming it on age though.

Being in a hurry is a sure way to forget things. That´s why I left behind so many things that time after the Charlie. But it also happens that at home you have a place for everything for ages. You don´t have to think. At a hotel it is different.

Who ho Lol it very bugging to have such sort of experience.. I remember this incident of mine which happened some what according to you. My mom had given me this brand new umbrella and i went to class and before giving my mom reminded that dont lose because in hurry i tend to lose it i have also lost many things before so that's why mom was a bit concerning, and my class is like it 45 km away i have to catch trains and go to classes and come back so what actually happened i forgot to pick up umbrella i was on my way to home i sat down in train and i just happened to check my back lol i was like how could this?? the train already began then the next station i stopped and i returned back and got it. Finally i got saved from mom and well as my carelessness thank god that it reminded me before. I would never forget such interesting experience of mine

I don´t recall how many umbrellas I have lots in buses since I was a child that went to school. Now I have decided that I prefer rain as umbrellas and I don´t seem to go together

When I was in New Zealand we reached Christchurch rather late in the night. We were put up in a hotel. After dinner I just went to bed dog tired. We had to rush the next morning on to our next destination and once there I realised I had left behind on of my good pants in the hotel back in Christchurch. It was a new pant and my favourite too.

Those are the things that happen when you are in a hurry. And I always wonder why the items we leave behind are always the ones we like best.

Yes at a certain point everybody undergoes such experience. So this is a proof that no one can be sure off and good habits. Taking care of the things that belong to you and not forgetting them is a sign of all noble dispositions. Yes when one is so much present to what is does then discovers something went wrong without being aware of , yes it creates so much feelings

There are moments in life when there are things that are a lot more important than clothes. When there´s an earthquake here (my country is an earthquake country) I just run. I don´t really care in that moment for my house or my belongings. My life is more important.

Hi marguicha, I am like Sherlock Homes when I am ready to leave a vacation spot, as I check, re-check about ten times. I also recheck everyone who is there with me too, as so often I have heard yes I checked and then I go and re-check and sure enough there are things still in drawers and or closets. I can see how your situation you forgot a few things as you had an unplanned situation the night before and then to be rushed the next day on the way out, I think then I too would forget my things as well. I do hope hope you had a really nice birthday yesterday. I know you are still waiting on the test results. I am still praying for you.

I usually check everything but I had never been in a hurricane before. At 3 PM it was as dark as night and the trees bended with the wind and the rain. That was before I hid in the bathroom with no windows.

That's swell. But the good thing is you get to leave before the unromantic Charlie came by. I tend to be forgetful thus when there are plans of travel, I usually pack WAY ahead of time. And when time comes that we have to go back, I also re-check my belongings. Not having to rush is beneficial in times such as these.

I left Orlando after Charlie hit the place. I had no way of going back to Miami while the hurricane was in process. Noone knew exactly of its course.

It happens to me all the time. Also, since I am in the Sales field, I am constantly travelling and losing belongins. But the thing I have lost the most is my pair of spectacles. I seemed to lose them almost every week. Finally I got a chain made that locks the pair of spectacles to my neck, so I cannot remove them anywhere.

So far I never left out any belonging during traveling. Because my wife always remains with me and she manages everything. I'm very much forgetful. I have a wish to travel alone. I don't know what will happen then. So far weather favored me.

So far, no. I haven't forgotten to bring back any belongings when travelling. But one thing to note is: I don't usually take all my things out of my bag when I travel. My bag serves as my cabinet. Hehe. So maybe that's one reason why. =)
