This is a warning to the ladies out there with the Nuvaring. This is not meant to scare you or stop you from using this type of birth control, but more a warning that if you have any of the following things happening to you, to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY. I started the Nuvaring right after my son was born. I loved the convenience of it and that I didn't have to remember to take it everyday. It was easy. After about three months of use, I began to have trouble breathing. I would sit on the couch, talk to someone, and be out of breath after one sentence. That was not normal at all. I would walk a very short distance and feel like I was going to pass out because I could not get the air that I needed. Finally when it felt like I had an elephant sitting on my chest all day long, I went to the doctor. I had 132, that's right, 132 blood clots in my lungs. One was in the pulmonary vein and on it's way to my heart. Had I not come in and gotten checked out the doctor told me I would have been alive for about another 24 hours and then I would have just dropped to the floor without ever knowing a thing. I was put on an immediate Heparin drip and hospitalized for three days. I went through nine months of two appointments per week where they pricked my finger and tested for the thickness of the blood so they could adjust the blood thinner dosage if needed. It was a very scary ordeal. Like I said, this is not to discourage you from wearing the Nuvaring, however if you do see any of these symptoms, please see a doctor and take the ring out.

I used this for one month and then switched to bcp. It really wasn't because I had any side effects - fortunately no birth control I've ever used has had undesirable side effects that were severe enough to cause me to not continue using it - but because apparently it can be felt by your spouse Anyway, I wanted to mention that I believe the leaflet inside states that blood clots can be a very undesirable side effect and if you have any of the potential signs (including feeling short of breath or being unusually fatigued when not doing anything) that you should immediately see your doctor. I'm not sure how often serious side effects even occur, I believe they probably do happen but to a very small portion of people who use birth control.

They say all birth control has a risk of blood clots, but I would like to see a study done on which birth control seems to see its largest share of women reporting blood clots. With your experience with Nuvaring I would think it would be right up there at the top. 132, that's amazing. I'm so glad you're still here to tell about it.
