Monday evening my son and I were sitting on the couch surfing the net. I have been researching the Total Gym for awhile. I'm 53 and over-weight, I have no muscle tone at all, my knee creeks, my hips hurt, my feet scream. When I hit 200 lb my blood pressure shot up right along with my cholesterol. This has been going on for a good number of years now. I have made up my mind that I'm going to add some small subtle changes to my life style. I don't do change, I hate drastic change. I have already changed my eating habits. I eat what I want. I will not diet. I hate that word. I have added more fruit, and less sugary processed foods. I already eat plenty of vegetables. This Total Gym is set-up in my den, and it will from here on out be a permanent fixture in this room right a long with the tv and the furniture we sit on. It will become my friend, my buddy. I will love it the same way I have fallen in love with my iPhone (I read books on it all the time, the phone, not the Gym) Next year this time I will be lighter, no longer on blood pressure and cholesterol medication. My feet and knees will feel better. They said it would take one to two weeks. I ordered it Monday evening and it was here Thursday morning. Wish me luck.

There are so many things I have coveted, Susan, of those called "as seen on TV". Sometimes I call and discover they are way too expensive. I hope your Gym will work. But I have a bad experience with those machines. My mom bought a walking machine years ago and used it twice. After discovering she did not want it at her bedroom, she asked my brother to put it away. I said I wanted it and had it for months. I used it once and my grandchildren played with it when they came over. Then my brother was diagnosed with HBP and needed to walk. So the contraption went to his home. Now it´s back in my mom´s attic.

I know where you're coming from. I've had a stationary bike, the little trampoline, Ab-flex and the Nordic Track. Probably over the years a few other things I can't think of at the moment. They all ended up as dust collectors and eventually went to that place were all unused, dusty equipment goes. The difference between then and now is health. Back then I just wanted to be real thin. I didn't have high blood pressure and cholesterol. My feet didn't hurt. I wasn't lethargic, I just wanted to be thinner. Now I can feel myself deteriorating, and developing new aches and pains every few weeks. I have to do something. Yes, I want the weight off, but not for the same reasons as before. Back then I was focused on the outside totally. Now I'm more concerned with what's happening on the inside. I look horrible on the outside, flabby cellulite. I can only imagine what the inside looks like. All that gobbie fat attaching it's self to my organs and crowding everything so it doesn't work right. No, I have to do something and I'm mentally able to accept that this has to be an intricate part of my life now just like brushing my teeth, combing my hair, bathing and so on. If want any quality of life as I ease into my golden years. I have to get some exercise and go back to eating the way my mother taught us to eat. I didn't just dive into this thing. I really researched it. This is the piece of equipment for me. I only hope that along and along my husband will give it a try and my teenage son. Thank-you so much for responding.

I understand you perfectly well, Susan. I´m now checking some things that aren´t working as they should in my belly. But besides that, I discovered a that is not really a diet as magazines go, but a lot more as I used to eat when my mom and granma made our food. It´s called the mediterranean diet and you can check it in the link of the Mayo clinic. It is just reasonable, old fashioned food. I also have made promises to myself that, as soon as doctors say I can (or must) I´m going to start having a less sedentary life. And, as you say, it´s not about beauty anymore. It´s about knees, back, shoulders and the like

Hi Susalee I think, the best way to get ride of over weight, is go daily on morning walk. It's not going to add any cost. Best of luck

I wish you luck! =) I think losing weight takes a lot of willpower, discipline, and perseverance. I hope you will be motivated enough by the thought of getting better in terms of health, and whatever other motivations you have. You can do it!!! =)

I have a total Gym and I love it! It's not a piece of junk or a gimmick. If you use it correctly, it will really help you out! I had weight loss surgery in February of this year, and began using the Total Gym a month later. The two combined have helped me shed over 60 pounds!! Good luck with your exercising! You'll feel so much betterr!
