Back and Forth on What I want to do

United States

Okay, so years ago I thought about becoming an HLE Agent (Humane Law Enforcement), aka animal cop. Then I switched to starting my own nonprofit animal sanctuary. Which I would still love to do and am excited about... BUT now I am back to wanting to become an animal cop. I think sometimes I might be more successful doing that..I'd want to move somewhere like Dallas, somewhere that I could have some land with my house. And not only would I be saving animals from horrible situations, but I would still be able to take a lot of animals into my home and keep them from being euthanized, etc. It just kind of stresses me out that I go back and forth when it comes to what I want to do. I know a lot of people have this trouble when it comes to their future, but that doesn't help me feel better. What do you guys think? Thanks!

All I can say is follow your heart my friend. You have a path to follow, so just go with it. Animals are a big part of your life so follow it, I helped out at a shelter a few times and I always felt I was doing something good, so what you want to do is 100 times that You are at a big decision in your life and I am the worst person to ask for advice lol. You have your head screwed on and no matter what you do, I am sure you will be happy and successful

Thank you I think no matter what I decide I'll be happy because it's all about the animals for me.

Sure you are talking to a proud owner of 5 cats and 2 dogs here and if I had my way I would have more but when I think of it they own me

At the same time, you can't save them all, and are you ready to work work an agency that does have to euthanize animals?

I am very aware that animals are euthanized every day, it's definitely not something I like, and I would change it if I could.

Oops, I didn't mean to send that response yet! I also wanted to say, the plans that I have for my nonprofit will help slightly with the euthanasia problem (but it probably won't feel like it to anyone). Once it is up and running I will let you know about it I think it's something you'll appreciate!

I just wonder if it would be hard working for them because of that.

I think you could take things one step at a time, or in this case, try one first and then move to the other. That way you could compare which you'd feel more effective in. Either way, you are a treasure to this planet so I do hope you succeed. Good luck! The world needs more hearts and minds like yours.

Aww thank you. I think that is what I'm going to have to do. I'd do the animal cop thing first, it'd earn me some money and prepare me for my next dream. Even if I never want to stop beign an animal cop, I could take in animals to save.

I should be the one thanking you, in behalf of all the other people who love and care for animals and the planet in general. So let me say this, thank you for choosing this career. I believe that not many have the willpower to pursue this even if their desire is strong. Do keep it up and good luck once again!

I think everyone goes through this, I know I did, I went from wanting to be a para-professional to an author..Now I am kind of working towards both, which would be awesome. So maybe just keep working towards both, and whatever works out first, you can still do the one and continue to work towards the other option..

Thank you, it's nice to know that other people have this problem. I think working as an HLE agent for a few years would be good...get a house with some nice land, and I can provide space for animals when the shelters run out of room. Then I'm doing both of my dreams! Would be great!

Yep, I am one to not settle for just one thing. I actually read that recently too, about using more than one of my gifts, rather than just one..If we can, we'll do it, right Lily???

This is a tough one...I guess you have to weigh up the pros & cons of each one on a piece of paper or you could just go with which one will give you the most satisfaction.

That's a good idea! I guess I've kind of been doing that mentally. One BIG pro I came up with for the animal cop thing is, where I want to go (Dallas), has a lot of real estate with a lot of beautiful land, and that would allow me to house animals for animal shelters, which will give them more space. And real estate is really cheap in Dallas (apparently!) There's this one BEATIFUL house, built in 2000, over 6,500 sw ft, with 3 acres of land...it is UNDER $300,000!! i was like...wow! haha. There's also another really nice house, over 2,000 sq ft with almost 5 acres (really beautiful landscaping)...under $300,000. If you want a lot of bang for your buck, go to Dallas! lol (sorry I'm obssessed with real estate

Wow!! I guess whatever you decide, you'd be best off doing it in Dallas! I never knew you could get such big houses/land for cheap there! If only i lived in the States...

Why not both? I think that's the beauty of it! You are still young, and you can do whatever you want to do. If you are passionate about these two things, then maybe you could find a way to do both?! In any case, goodluck!

I actually have figured out what I want to do now, being at Best Friends, and doing this workshop, has really helped me. And it is kind of a mix of doing both. Once I get all the facts and figure it out, I will make a disussion about it. Because I know I'll need help coming up with a name for it! Thanks!

Hello Lily, I've always known you as an animal lover like the rest of the veterans that i know, and proud of you taking steps in taking care and protecting animal life. sometimes i envy you because i know you can do it. i am not an expert of taking care much of animals and am not even allowed to have pets except my dog. but you can and now you're planning to be an animal cop, i think it's going to be great for the animals that they have some one that protects them

Thank you Letran, that's a very nice thing of you to say. I do love animals very much, and would love to protect them. At least you are allowed your dog, there are some people who aren't even allowed one pet! Which would totally suck! What kind of dog is yours?
