Hello Lotters,
Yes, I know it's our 104th Celebration of Independence day. a day where Gen. Aguinaldo declared Independence against the Spaniards. then, when United States set us free on July 4th, Which was also their independence day, Former late President Manuel Quezon brought back the date of June 12 of our declaration of independence.
I have my flag displayed in the upper area near my room door. I thought of buying a large flag to display it on top of our Commercial Centre but it was too expensive at least 150 Pesos, i haven't got my pay out yet.
Another even that I remember that It's also my sister in laws birthday, not to mention she's a complete Caviteno, you can say she's as brave as any people born in Cavite. then, the next day June 13 which is my birthday of my sister in law from my eldest brother's wife. i could say i have brave sis-in-laws...
Any thing else you remember besides it's our Independence day?
How do we supposed to honour it?

yes my friend, July 12, 1898 is our independence day, and it is very significant to me, I remember everybody putting Philippine Flags in their windows including me and my aunt when I was a boy when we were still living in Malate, Manila which BTW is one of the earliest Spanish settlements. We would watch the military parade on black and white T.V. being held at the Luneta Grandstand and marvel at how strong our Military was ( Government was not yet corrupt that time), from our house on the second floor, we would watch the aerial formation of jets. July 4 is Fil-American Friendship day which we still very much honor up to now.
Yes for Filipinos, and those planning to visit the Philippines, include the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit , Cavite in your itenerary, where the First Philippine flag was flown, it's worth your while, lots of antiques and furnitures, they even have the sword captured by Aguinaldo from a Spanish general made in Toledo(?), last time I went there , the fruit tree (forgot what it was), the general's favorite was still alive more than a hundred years old, so much much more, so I hope you visit the shrine before going swimming.

Hello Louievill,
Yes, it was a lot more different during those times. you know, i saw a lot of people selling flags but no one seems to be buying from them. unfortunately, i don't have the money to buy the 130Php flag, the big. but i do have the small one posted near my door which my room is located. i have visited the Aguinaldo shrine a lot during my younger age.

yeah, go freedom!!!! I know that our country is not very ideal but I love being a Filipino and not only during June 12 that I remember our national heroes...I always just go to the church and light a candle for them, my mother used to do this and it made a lot of sense to pray for our deceased heroes rather than just display a flag...though I do both
We should be thankful to be an independent country!!! even though sometimes it may not seem so...

Hello marapplestiffy,
I agree that praying for and thanking them for their deeds is the best way. i think not most filipinos like mantis remember it so well because we are at our peaceful times despite of the tragedies we kept on experiencing. but i understand them, sometimes i have doubts too but we have only one country and nation to be proud, why be shamed of it now when we can make a difference in our own time.

i am also proud to be a Filipino...
why?
1. Philippine made products is much quality compare to China made products...
but my ASUS laptop and my ASUS desktop are all China-made products and until now it is still working and awesome....
2. Philippine Government is not corrupt since we Filipino Civilians voted them and i am proud of it....
3. I am proud in the Philippines to be my country but i want to migrate to Foreign country to escape Philippines to earn green pasture....
4. ?????

Well, it's a great feat to be able to gain freedom from oppressors, so they say. However, I'm just wondering why the country gives the birthdate of its hero more weight?
I just heard from a friend of mine yesterday that they're holding Jose Rizal's birthday as a national holiday next week. While the Independence day was treated as an ordinary day. Does this mean that Jose Rizal is more important than the Freedom of the country? or is it because it's a holiday created by the new admin?
Still, it made me wonder how these things could be?

Hello laydee,
It's hard to believe but let me tell you something, some people out there are really more obsessive with the heroes instead of the date of independence. I, once attended a group of rizalist and more like light extremist or something. i was part of the student council and that's why i attended the event. but thank god i didn't join their group.
The declaration of independence wasn't taking seriously because we were conquered by the Americans months after we thought we defeated the Spaniards, which we thought were allies back then . meh, am tired of wondering about the past.

Indepedence will be something good to remember to all our fellow pinoys. but as merely as celebration. i see children who forget how to sing the national anthem or people not putting their hands on their chest just and not singing the Anthem. it's great to see you're sisters that are close to the date of the independence.

Hello Mika,
It is the day of remembering our past. unfortunately, the people not singing the anthem anymore is what really worries me most of the time.well, at least am glad that my elder siblings married women who has close or whos birthday is directly coming from the date of our independence. something worth remembering.

Hello jean25,
I know you're in Middle east now but still the memory of independence is worth remembering. if we don't give importance to it now, how can we be able to love our country more. a lot of people don't love the country now simply because of some issues that made us shame. well, there are more than two hundred million filipinos from here and accross the world.am sure at least one percent is making a good difference.

Hello ebuscat,
I wish it were that easily but it seems that more people remember Jose Rizal rather than our other heroes and their obessions some what annoys me. how ever, some day peopel will recognize our independence more rather than just focus on the individual heroes alone

our country has been independent for a centuries and some decades but it's kind of sad that we can't defend our territories which is the Spratlys islands which is part of our territories for a long time, China is currently claiming it is as their on while its ours. I have a feeling nobody will help us because most countries nowadays are afraid of China. Our government felt helpless like a kitten against a pit bull. I felt awful that our territories were being invaded in a time we are an independent country.

Hello Captain-Albert,
I am not entirely sure which country owned the spratly's first though. but seriously i think we have it first before CHINA ever did. they got balls now because of their military, but i won't be afraid of them since they want to pollute their place by having more oil into their country. we should focus on alternate energy sources like geothermal, solar and hydro power instead of oil.
