Its my daughter! She has a trouble always in tying up her shoe laces right. To my surprise today, I saw her shoes on the bed and she was busy meddling with the lace. When i started to have a talk, she was almost into tears. She is 5 years old and she got hurted at school by her friends, when she said she has trouble in tying up. So we decided, sat together for 3 hours, started to teach step by step and finally she picked up well! She screamed proudly "I did it! I can do it myself! No one can tease me any more!". I always feel tying up shoelaces are first challenging lesson for them. I remember i struggled too initially in tying them right.lol. Am happy she is out of her depression now!

Hi besthope Awwh too cute! Yes it is quite challenging and some have a very hard time in learning how to tie the laces. I am glad you patiently taught her how to do it. She will never forget your guidance and remember you too remember the challenge, therefore, think about how happy this was because one day she too will sit and patiently teach hers and other children how to tie them. I remember my two where I did the bunny loop over and under, gosh sounds so cute and funny now but as parents this is what we do. Though it may seem like something small to small, actually it is the start for her to learn to patiently take her time and try, try again and she will be able to accomplish anything life brings at her.

HI HWG, Oh yes! I taught her the same bunny loop song which we learned those days. It made her easy to rhyme and tie them up, so she remembered it easily. Even today she tied it herself and i was really glad to see her level of confidence. She was patient for the 3 hours and i can see the interest on her eyes to get it done! She is just like her dad, who never gives up with a winning attitude! His dad planning this weekend to get her a cycle which she loved for a while now, to motivate her efforts!

Wow, 5 years old and ties her shoes, that is awesome..Here, it used to be that by 5 or 6, children were suppose to tie their shoes. But now with velcro, they don't push it as hard, so even if one was 7 or 8, they wouldn't get teased about it, probably because most kids can't..My son can, because I worked with him, I didn't want him to not know.

Hi besthope, yes kids are smarter today, even my 9 y/o son who still get add and subtract negative numbers better than I, and he was never taught how, that's embarrassing...

i wonder why i managed to tie my shoe laces without help, maybe its due to the fact that when ever i bought shoes, they are always already tied to "perfection" therefore not needing any learning to be done?

ahaha! I am also of the same kind. I do not to tie shoe lace. I never learnt it properly. But now that ur daughter has learnt ask her to practice it on holidays also twice. She will become comfortable. I learnt putting knot say in my 40/45 th year. I never use to wear shoes in school days. During college days my mami (auntie) use to help me. I use to avoid wearing shoes to Bank also till such time slip on shoes were introduced. have a good day. Now I know to some extent.

Thats interesting to hear sir. Most of us always find shoes and laces a big trouble. Even me, my brother all had this problem. And it was not easy to learn it as quicker though. Nice you had your aunt to help you. Latest shoes are more comfortable without hassles of laces. Cheeers!!

Oh yes , they are cool and never tough to tie and knot. But the schools till follow the old type and its a strict rule. So Children has to learn them. Cheers!!

that is a tiny story but useful. She showed that she's a strong and independent girl. I guessed that you're in US or UK or somewhere like that because I heard many stories about independency in culture of UK or US. The youth can live independently at their early ages. That's great. We could succeed as long as we try

Hi Treisika, Even in India, most kids are learning to be independent, especially girls. Though not totally independent, but to some extent they stand on their own and thats proud thing to see. True, interest can takes to success! Cheers!

Oh, she is doing well. She took action to master the shoe laces instead of pouting or hiding from it.
