I bought my laptop brand new 4 months ago and it is already showing signs of deterioration. Nothing too bad, no crashes. I have had the browser (foxfire) freeze a couple of times, not a lot maybe 2 or three times. I have also noticed a little slowness. Not so much connection slowness but when I click on something there is a tiny pause before it actually clicks. The computer is a Toshiba and for the most part I am very pleased with it. I just want to stay new-like. I have minimum add-ons, minimum downloads and very good virus protection.

There are many way that your computer will get slow. By installing certain program that automatically start when you start your computer will actually occupied your RAM and the more such program that you install and the more program that run at the back, you will find your computer running slower than when it is new. The windows OS actually having a very big defect that it use up a lot of memory. And whenever you install a program it will be stay in your registry and it will still there after you have uninstall the program, and when you start your computer, your computer will load the registry and if your registry is really big with huge information where there have old information on all the program in your computer and also the old program that you have uninstalled. So, in order to finish loading all the information, if you registry is messy with a lot of old program information, you have find that you computer running really slow at the startup. That is the time to clean up your registry. You can actually find a lot of program that can help you to clean up your registry and that can make your computer run faster. One of the program i am using is CCleaner. And I find that this program is really effective, when ever my computer running slow, I will start the program and you will find your computer speedup almost immediately.

thank you charlestng, that clears it up some for me. I had used Revo uninstaller before on my desk top computer so I am familiar with that. I will go look at Comodo...and I love cnet.
About start up...I know this a little off subject but my start up folder says empty.
Yet I have yahoo msngr sticky notes and probably more that start automatically when the computer first comes on. Isn't this the same thing?
thanx

You are right that the registry only affected the startup and shut down but it will be great if we can start our computer faster rather than have to wait for a long time before it boot up.
CCleaner not only remove invalid registry, it also help to clean up all the unwanted temporary files like cookies, history and others files than occupied your hard disc space. And it also help to dump your memory so that your computer have more available resources hence your computer will run better with better performance. You can see the immediate effect right after you run the CCleaner and I have tried it many times and successfully speed up my computer without fail.

So why not use opera browser it will be faster. or use norton antivirus. Anti-virus programs will help your computer more secure. But I advise you, you should know the configuration of your computer then we will be depending on each case that uses the appropriate program to prevent your computer running slow or reduce the life of the computer ahead of time that set out the warranty when we bought.

I also have the same problem with Firefox it constantly freezes.Maybe it's not because of the computer itself.I think it's unresolved problem with Firefox because if I'm using another browser,I'm not having that problem.I would also suggest that you set a scheduled Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation so your computer can run faster. You can also uninstall programs which you have never use.

you know I think you're right. I think the browser might just be the problem, well at least part of the problem anyway.
