Certificate of Non-Marriage....CENOMAR

So my mom and I had a discussion about this since we got to talk about my father's uncle who was a priest who was taken to court because he married an already married man,, not to my grandfather but to the man...he got away with that because years before there was no CENOMAR yet, and he was married in Negros and went to Cebu, he said he wasn't registered in Negros so he got himself registered in Cebu and married but 3 weeks after that his 1st wife and legal wife found him and sued him and my grandfather...now this was the reason the CENOMAR got created because this incident didn't only happen to my grandfather but to many priests...so they petitioned the state to create this system....
What do you think of CENOMAR? I think it's really a big help in keeping crazy/cheating men in check...

I am rather confused with the story. Your uncle was a priest yet he got married. Then I can conclude that he was not a catholic priest. Silly me!
Anyway, CENOMAR is essentially required because of the example that you've cited. I think that it is but fitting considering that a lot of women are conned into marrying a guy without the knowledge that the guy that she's supposed to get married is already married. Bad intuition on her part..her as$ is sorry.
Happy mylotting!

Oh jeez! So your uncle married off a couple in which the man was already married! Now I am enlightened.
It's okay Marapplestiffy! I too sometimes fail to fully convey my post to others. Guess we had that same struggle eh?
Have a good day!

This should and must be implemented.
Then those cheaters will have no way of getting married few times and keep cheating again and again.
I wish they should implement punishment and put a BILL with anyone who will caught having multiply marriages.
serves those cheaters!

hi!
it should be a requirement for any couple thinking of getting married. it saves a lot of doubts and a lot of potential trouble later on. people who cheat should not be able to get away with it because so many parties get hurt in the process.

it does saves a lot of people from a lot of trouble...in all parties, the priest, the wives, or maybe the husbands

my older sister has been married to a cheating husband for 14 years before she knew about it and filed for an annulment 2 years ago. thru gathering evidences while building up a case against the ex-husband, to our utter surprise and disbelief... we run a cenomar and voila... we came across 2 marriages.
if cenomar had been a requirement before she got married, they wouldn't have gotten married at all. and this annulment case has been dragging for 2 years now and is quite a frustration.

I think this is a great idea! I hope it helps in these situations. Its not just for priests though is it. This should help to keep cheaters and bigomists in check. You'd think so anyway. But this is what I would call one more sign of the times. I enjoyed this discussion. Had no idea of this CENOMAR and now I do.

Yes, it's not just for the priests though they were the ones who voiced out this concern...hmmn, they are sometimes very right, but yeah, it's more to keep those cheaters and bigamist in check...don't know why they do what they do

I have not heard of a CENOMAR as such but it is not a bad idea. Surely they should be a way to prove that a person has not been married before and if they have, they are well and truly divorced or widowed and not still legally wed! It seems so unjust that the poor priest should get into trouble.

First of all....I need to get this out before it consumes me...Your grandfather (your dad's uncle) was a Priest?? But they're not supposed to have spouses!
Okay, there...I'm done with that now. :)
CENOMARs are a really great innovation of the NSO. I never even knew about such a thing until my husband (who was only my fiance then) and I needed to prepare documents for our wedding in 2006.
But mind you, it's not only the men who cheat. I know of women who are already married, and yet marry again under false pretense that she is legally available and single.

no, he didn't marry...he married off a man who was previously married...
priests are the one who marry couples off...
yeah, there are many women who are also cheaters, though in my grandfather's story it was a man who cheated...

Oh okay! My mistake! Wasn't concentrating I guess. Sorry about that.
Anyway, I never knew they can prosecute the one who officiated the wedding (in this case, your uncle...and a priest) for that.
I know of someone who got married in church in a sort of "formality" wedding because they were "supposed to be" already married civilly. But the guy found out later that the 1st civil wedding was a sham because the girl was still married to her first husband. She said the marriage was annulled. But NSO confirmed that she is still very much married.
It is a complicated case mind you. Everything was orchestrated by this girl.

As far as i know CENOMAR is required if the one applying for marriage is above 30 years old..and i guess it is also beneficial so as to avoid further problems

This CENOMAR will be a great help for those people getting married. At least they will now be so sure that their partner wasn't previously married to anybody. It will save a lot of legal proceeding, in case the partner is already married.

It is a good idea, IF the previous marriage(s) are on record!

It would be a great help to erase all your doubts before your wedding. It is a must to have this just to be sure that your man is really free from any obligation. There are lot of cheaters in this world so beware.

Hi... CENOMAR is Certificate of No Marriage. That is one of the requirements before getting married. So that they will check if one of them is in a commitment. Id one of them is still single or married. This is a big help to us, especially in our community.
