In many schools around the US and in the Asian area are using the iPad as a part of their normal lesson. What do you think about it?

What ever happened to the good old days of a pen and paper? Kids were more focused when they were using the latest technology. Yes, it's easier to carry around but in my opinion I think it's a waste, it gets you off track because you have the option to explore more than the daily class work, kids these days will be updating their facebook about god knows what every five seconds instead of actually doing their school work.

I don't think that its a good idea. There are too many distractions and not enough learning going on.

I think that it is important to keep up to date with technology, and schools using the iPad is a way in which this can be done in the modern day. In addition to this, children enjoy using these gadgets, so surely mixing these in with lessons would help them to learn their lessons better than if they were just being made to use a pen and paper like in the past. I think the potential of these devices are amazing, and there is certainly a future for these gadgets being used alongside the current system of education.

I think ipad is a very powerful technology and it has it's good uses. I think it's about time people realize how to use these gadgets the right way, instead of just using them for games, music, watching movies, etc..

Welcome! I think using the ipad in schools is okay for some classes. (Social Studies, Science and English for research papers only) However, I also think students need to use their own mind for other classes such as math. When I went to school we couldn't use a calculator, now students use a calculator to add 250 & 250. This actually scares me. The students in todays world rely on electronics to do the work for them. When they reach the real world, ipads or calculators may not be available options and then what do they do. They can't even do simple math without a calculator. Best Wishes!

Well, at some instances, using iPad can be helpful but there should be limitations to the use of it. We cannot control how technology can be advantageous or disadvantageous to the students. The next generations would be so dependent on technology. It should just be incorporated to the old ways of teaching. What if we have no choice but to go back to the ancient times. It would be hard for this generation to survive. Technology makes our lives easier but we should also take into consideration learning the old ways as well so that we will not be so dependent on it.

It depends on the school's capability and the student's needs. If a school cannot provide in purchasing these Ipads in the first place, they should not continue the program at all. Also, if students do not know how to use the Ipad, it will also be of no use. I would agree that the Ipad will relieve some burden of carrying books but it should not the replacement for the whole thing. The feel of a book is still different from a ebook reader, in my opinion.
