Do basketball players prefer to drink water during their play?

We should obey our thirst. Liquids are valuable and refreshing. Then, why do basketball players as I have seen, they usually drink Gatorade or Procari. Does it rehydrates more?

We do not only lose water when we sweat, we also lose sugars, and electrolytes. Gatorade and Pocari Sweat have those electrolytes that help in rehydrating athletes since they perform in high pressure situations and need to maintain the same level of performance at all times.

Gatorade and Procari don't 'rehydrate' any more than water would do but they do replace lost minerals and (because of the sugars) gives some 'instant energy' to the muscles.
