Hi friends, I really don't know whom should I ask so can you please spare some time and give me your opinion and suggestions if you have. The story is the following. Today I got a call from a lady managing a Day Care facility and she invited me to an interview. Of course we met and I need to prepare for tomorrow a story to present to three year old kids. I need to work with them for at least an hour - hour and a half. I've worked with KG age kids before but it was easier when you have a plan to follow. Can you please share your experience (if you have) with 3 year old? What can attract their attention and even better - what can keep their attention for so long. The story I will read in a couple of minutes. And what's after that? I would appreciate any suggestion. Thanks.

All I remember about 3 year olds is they are darling and have short attention spans. If I were you I would think up a variety of activities. Vary them from being quiet to moving around, to even dancing in place..like the hokey-pokey. Be prepared to change an activity that isn't working and have several extras in case you go through them quickly. And..have fun..and GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks stary1. I think I'm ready now. I prepared some nice stories to choose from as well as songs, coloring pages, games and I hope everything will be ok. It's only one hour circle so let's see. Thanks for the support!!! :)

I GOT THE JOB!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all!!!! Thanks a lot for the valuable suggestions that you gave me. Well I thought it was a little disaster (you know how is it with kids) but they all liked me and they participated so nicely in the activities. You were right, the story itself took only few minutes and they felt bored but we sang a lot and we played games... The same day the owner called me that I am accepted. I cannot thank you enough :).

3 year olds can communicate they are easier to handle, mostly!, than 2 year olds. but they can still be handful. Its good that you are preparing. But know that you can't be prepared for anything. Be ready to adapt to any situation. 3 year olds are mostly attracted to movement and color, so if you have something that is brightly colored and easy to move that would help. Sounds can attract there attention as well so make sound effect while reading them a story or acting something out. And lastly, look into their eyes and smile! Hope this helps somewhat.

I have a 3-year old daughter and what really gets her attention is music. If you are reading a story, it's nice if you can use different tones of your voice, kids like that. Also, if you could incorporate some songs to the story, that would surely catch their attention. Also, be as animated as you can, meaning you can use hand movements or dance a little. Just make it fun and exciting. It would help if you can watch a few episodes of Barney. The mood of the show is perfect for 3-year old kids. Good luck!

Yes, thanks rakittera that you reminded me of Barney. It's really a very nice show and it has fantastic songs. My kids used to know all of them by heart :). I'll try to use all your suggestions and I believe everything will be ok. Thanks a lot!!!
