Would you sacrifice a paying job just to venture into business? If you already have a 9 to 5 job would you risk it all for business? I'm confused, I really really want to focus to my retail business, aside from the fact that I'm earning a lot from it compare to my paying job, I'm also enjoying. As they said once you decide to start a business, commit yourself to it. Never start a business half hearted with the idea that you will try it for a year or two.

You already have a business wherein u are earning well. Then resign. I saw Philipines is the 12th largest economy in the world. Give ur best to the business. If u do half hearted manner business cannot bring success. have a good day.
A study attributed to Harvard University found that when a person gets a job, 85% of the time it is because of their attitude, and only 15% of the time because of how smart they are and how many facts and figures they know. Surprisingly, almost 100% of education dollars go to teach facts and figures which account for only 15% of success in work!
This book is all about that 85% of success. Attitude is the most important word in the English language. It applies to every sphere of life, including one's personal and professional life. Can an executive be a good executive without a good attitude? Can a student be a good student without a good attitude? Can a parent, teacher, salesman, employer, employee be good in their roles without a good attitude?
The foundation of success regardless of your chosen field, is attitude.
If attitude is such a critical factor in success, shouldn't you examine your attitude toward life and ask how your attitude will affect your goals?
YOU WILL SUCCEED IF YOU WANT TO. HAVE A GOOD DAY.

You know, I'm in the same position as you. I have a nice paying job where I'm comfortable working at, but at the same time, I'm starting to think about my future and be independent with my own little business.
I don't think I would just quit my job just like that and experiment with my business gig, I think I would consider all aspects first and then be as you say, commited to it completely.
Of course there would be ups and downs but in the end, as an old saying goes, he who doesn't risk, doesn't win, althoug this risk could be considered premeditated.

Actually I started to open my retail business a month ago, I only open my store every Sunday. I have a very convenient location because I don't have to rent a place to displace my items, rather I make used of my dad's lawn. So far my earnings are ok much higher than what I'm being paid for in my current job.
As they say, the one who takes the greatest risk and invest the most in time, talent and reputation is entitled to the greatest reward.

Hi dear,
Nice topic. Sometime even I used to think of the same. I got good profiled job and nice salary income also. Still, I used to think to involve in business and expand my business and I used to think and dream of it.
Getting into business is a good plan. But these days, we must be cautious of so many related factors also. Investment capital, market, competition, business talent, and such so many factors are essentially need to come together for a better of improvement. Also, in the initial times we cannot expect profit, just like in the commercial line, we have to face several other unexpected and incidental costs, and the like. But if daring and have plans, money, interest, confidence and ready to take risk and challenges, I recommend you to go for it. Expert opinion and research and study also need to be completed as a trial tailor. Before getting into it, such important facts are essentially considered and all the rest are vested with luck and confidence.
Best regards,
Thank-s

Indeed, there are lot of factors that needs to be considered. That's why I'm bit hesitant if I really should quit my current job. It's a given fact that business has its ups and down and we cannot really expect to get out ROI that soon. The good thing about my little business is that I really did not invest anything from my pocket. What I did was I sell out all my unused clothes, shoes, accessories and the likes.

If this is the case, you can better to look for some web sites where people do buy and sell used goods. But there is not guarantee that you will get the required customers in time and as and when you required. However, you can go for a try. What I feel to say that if all these are used one donate to some of the orphanage or give to poor people, which will make you great. If you sell it out, how much you can expect from all. So, think in such a way also to be good within yourself. Don't feel bad, I just thought, as I normally do in such a way that all my good use dress and such things I would donate to poor or who are really make feel happy to accept such used things.
Thank-s

I've read through the first page of responses and discovered that you've been in business for about a month and that you are using free space on your father's lawn...So now as someone who spent most of their live self employed, I am going to point out a few things to you, not towards discouragement but towards practicality.
This appears to be either a retail or service business, I am leaning toward retail and will approach it as such.
You say you are earning more at your business than at your hourly job. Excellent! Now are these earnings gross or net? Gross is what you have when your product is sold, cost + profit. Are you remembering to factor into your end of the day earnings the cost of replacement stock?
Have you deducted for your taxes? Does your job offer an insurance package? Could your business sustain one? What about expansion? Are you looking to one day obtain a store front? Who carries the liability insurance for your customers? You or your father? This insurance covers your customers in case they get hurt on your property, in such a case they may attempt to sue, this insurance helps protect you.
Are there any business licenses you need to obtain? Permits? Have you registered a company name and chosen a form, LLC, Sole proprietorship, Inc?
Before you leave your hourly job, I suggest you check business start ups and the governmental issues you may have to address. Do this now while you are still employed and receiving a paycheck and place the earnings of your business aside for the future of that business. Do some profit/loss projections, basically best case and worst case scenarios.
As we say where I come from...get those ducks in a row, swimming up river is swimming against the current and the going does get tough at times.

Thank's I will definitely keep that in mind. As of the moment I don't have any plans for expansion, maybe one day If my business earnings can afford it why not. As of the moment I'm happy with my current space which is being provided by my dad for free. As of the moment I'm still at the process of saving enough money from my little retail business.

I think before I gave up a good paying job to venture out on my own I would want to be sure there was going to be a demand for the type of work I was going to be doing. That way while you are testing the waters to be sure your business will make it you still have a paying job to help with the bills and stuff you have.I wish you luck my friend and hope you do well and have a great day.

Hi!
If your retail business is doing good and you're really enjoying with it, then I think you should concentrate on it. Especially if you're not happy with your 9 to 5 job anymore. If only I had the knack for business, I would have left my job already a long time ago. But I do agree that it's difficult to choose between a stable job and a business since in a business, it's either it would be a success or a flop. It depends on your faith on yourself and on what you really wanna do in life. If you think you can go on with your business no matter how it turns out in the future and if you think that by doing so you'll be happy without any regrets, then go for it. I'm sure many people will support you no matter what happens, like your family and friends. Good luck!

I did this already. I am glad I made the decision to do it even though it did not work out. I would have always wondered and been regretful for never trying. Though it wasn't a big failure, it was not a huge success. got out pretty much breaking even so not much was lost. would like to have the opportunity again someday to do again.

Not for me, I would much prefer to have a stable source of money when I depend on myself to make my own living. Currently I have a job, and while it's not the best of all, it always pays on time every month and I have a nice salary there.
I know it would be exciting to try my own business about computer and being my own boss for sure has its rewards, but then I would depend on my ability to get customers and revenues, and marketing is far away from my interests and I'm not good at that. So I prefer to keep my current job and my nice steady income for keeping myself feed.
Maybe sometime I may do some freelance job in my spare time, but for now I can't think of that.

I think that is everyone dream. Who wouldn't want to quit their job and be their own boss. I would love it. But, we cannot have everything we want. Also, there are risks in business, then there is the responsibility of paying bills, providing for your family. So most of us get caught up in the cycle of going to work and out our dreams on a shelf.

As long as I can do both, then i will still work while managing the business that i had started. But when times come and i need to choose one of the two, I will choose the business that I have started. Since with the business, I can still ear money even if I am old. But when you just rely on the salary that you will receive in your job, when you reach the age 60, you will be force to retire and time will come that you will have no money left unless you have save enough.

from your question, it seems that you are juggling both. However, you cannot effectively serve two masters. look at the pros and cons.your paying job may give you less but it has less risk and losses are absorbed by the employer not to mention benefits and allowances. your own business may give you more money but you will assume all losses and feel the recession first hand.
i guess the question is are you willing to risk it all for the chance of a better future?
i hope the better pay is not the driving force behind wanting to venture into the business.
i wish you all the best should you decide to start your own business

Since right now my son is still little and I have to spend longer time with him. So a regular working schedule fits me. I prefer to have a stable job right now rather than a risky business by myself. When you want to be your own boss, at first you have to spend long time on it. You have to work harder. The pressure will be high especially at the beginning. It is not the right time for me to do it now. If you don't have a child yet and you shall try it.

I am actually trying to figure something out to be able to quit my full time job and make more money working for myself, but that is hard to do and I dont know what will make the best money! I wish I could quit my job working for someone else and work for myself. The key is, you wont make money working for someone else. You make the money having people working for you!

I don't think so. I have good paying job and I don't think to make my own business. Perhaps, I only have employee character. I satisfy with my current job. As a staff in governmont office, my salary is above average. Furthermore, work in governmont office is favorite in my country. Good monthly salary, pension/retire fund, health insurance for all family and other benefits. Many of us build small business and run it while they are in duty but I don't. I just want to be professional in my career.

Your question is, would I quit my job to venture into business.
Well, I have no job at the moment, but I will answer hypothetically. =P
If I had a paying job, and I want to start a business, I will try to do both at the same time. Keep the paying job for a while, until I'm sure the business is stable. When it is already quite stable, that's the only time I will consider quitting the paying job.
In your case however, it seems your business is already quite stable. If you feel it is, then maybe it is time to consider quitting the paying job. Because it is true, if you have a business of your own, you have to really be committed to it.

In my opinion, its better you ask yourself, this is because only you know your limit whether you can do 5 jobs and retail business in the same time or you can stop doing 5 jobs and give focus to expand your business retail. If I am you I will focus to expand my business

Yes definitely i would quit my job to venture into business because in business there is no limit for income and one can earn any amount of money and one does not have to work under anyone so i think i will quit my job in order to enter in the venture.
