Are You Older And Having A Hard Time Finding Work?

I'm 43 and have been unemployed for the most part for the past 6 years, with the exception of a temporary/seasonal job around Christmas in evergreens. I live in a small town with fast food places being the places with the most opportunities. I've applied but never even get the benefit of even an interview. I apply online as that how most places do it these days and get an immediate response that I'm "not qualified". This seems to be the case at every job I've applied lately. Is it because I have too many past jobs, too much experience? Is there anyone else having the same issue?

I think you had better get used to the idea. You know that 43 isn't old, but it is when 18 year olds can't find jobs. I'm much older so I have no chance of being employed again. You have to find ways to earn without doing a conventional job. And don't even think about earning a living online!
Car wash anyone?

I hear you! The down economy isn't helping and sounds like won't be improving soon. I've been trying to get work playing music at weddings, but that hasn't been profitable either. My best source of income is the Mandolin instructional book I wrote, and I'm thankful, but it's not much of an income steam.

Thankfully I have a job. I don't plan on working for the rest of my life so I am trying to plan now what I would do if I lost my job. There is no way in the world I'd want to be 50 years old and having to go out and beg for a job. If I were you I'd look at starting a business and doing something that will allow you to earn an income for yourself. Have you tried registering at temp agencies?

I have tried temp agencies, but even that didn't pan out. I am seriously looking for low cost start-up opportunities to start my own business. It's difficult for me since I was a Manufacturing Tech making good money at the height of my career. Being told I'm not qualified to make espresso when I can fix the espresso machine is a bitter pill to swallow...:)

I have not the same issue yet but i observe that job postings have age limits in them.Maybe economic crisis is just that worst.Well if you can't find a job, seek an alternative source of income.I'm sure, with your experiences, you have acquired enough skill perhaps to start your own business.
