I'd like to say that Zerg is the most under powered race in Starcraft 2 because they don't have any low tier air units. Each unit on Starcraft has a strength and weakness. It all depends. If you want to get better, I'd suggest playing more 1 versus 1 games and getting to at least Gold league. Starcraft 2 is a really fun game!

Zerg was definitely the most underpowered race at the start of the game. Right now, I'd say that either Zerg or Protoss is the most underpowered. The game was just patched, though, and Protoss got a buff, so they're doing a little bit better at least.
Playing A LOT of 1v1's is the best way to get better. I like to watch pro replays and commentary games by commentators like HuskyStarcraft and Day9. They provide a good amount of insight on the game to help you get better.

It all depends on what the opponent goes, but the most basics are:
ZvT = Ling/Muta
ZvP = Roach/Infestor/Corruptor
But if the Protoss goes Immortals, they have a bonus attack against armored units, so Roaches aren't as good, so you'd want to go Zergling and get the surround on their Immortals.
In ZvT, enough zerglings can pretty much take out any amount of marines, but if they go marauder/siege tank/hellion, then either a good amount of mutalisks or a good amount of roaches will pretty much seal the day.
In ZvZ, it's usually a short game with either only zerglings, only zergling and roaches, or only zerglings and mutalisks. I personally like to get my expansion up (Hatchery First) and fast-tech to mutalisks before my opponent can get any anti-air up. It's a pretty good way to end the game decisively.
