She is citing a foot injury as the cause for her withdrawal from the tournament. With the field already wide as it is, who do you think would win this year?

Hard to say, there are so many players now of about a similar standard, but the women's side is no fun, with Clisters, Henin, and the Williams sisters out.

I personally would've picked Justine Henin had she been on this draw for sure even if the Williams sisters are here.

I thought it would be a dispute between Clijsters and Serena Williams, but now that Clijsters is out, I say that Serena is the favorite by far, despite the fact that she was out of tennis from a long time. She is not going to be in her best shape, but I don't see no other female player to be capable to beat her. Maybe Schiavone would be a strong opponent and Na Li is coming from a inedited title so she's definitely going to be excited and in a good shape too. But the others (Woznicaki, Sharapova..), they are to weak to win this grand slam.

Serena still looks rusty, as evidenced by her first tournament ouster and her three-set first round match in Wimbledon. At this point, I'm expecting her to continue on her course until she gets challenged by a seeded player. From there, let's see. Sharapova has the skills, but her tendency to hit one double fault after another would knock her out in the latter stages.

Sharapova has won it before but that was at a very young age and before her shoulder injury, so while she can never be counted out completely, it is not likely for her. Li Na who won The French is not likely to do as well on grass even though the present grass courts are not what they use to be. It would be nice to see Wozniacki make a break through and finally win a major but on grass it may not happen. Then there are the Williams sisters who have won many times but injury may just stop both of them from going all the way this year.

Sad that Kim Clijsters had to withdraw due to injury. I believes so that she would be one of the hot pick if she is in good shape without any injury, but somehow, what is not meant to be is not meant to be... I believe that she would recover real soon and be ready to win more tournaments as well as defend her US Open title and the year end woman's championship!

It is too hard on kim for she came out of retirement to become a major force. I think this is the time she would have never wanted an injury. Hoping she will get fit soon.
And my favourite to win this year is serena williams. :)
