Dumbledore put Harry in the care of Petunia Lilys sister,because of the protection Lily put on Harry. This protection makes voldemorts spells unbinding to Harry this includes the killing curse. In book 4, Harry fights off the imperus curse (the mind control spell) when voldemort uses it on him by simply telling the demanding voice with "NO I DON'T THINK I WILL." This was only implied in the movie, when Harry doesnt bow the first time. Harry chose Gryffindor, even though he had qualities of slytherin. He often dreamt of a cold high voice telling him to transfer.(he chose to ignore it) Dumbledore sends Harry the cloak of invisability. This item once belonged to James, and was a family Heirloom.(through out the books the cloaks didnt just hide them from view it protected them against spells(in the first half of book 7) When they were learning about deaths cloak of invisabilty, lovegood told them that unlike other invisability cloaks deaths cloak would never ware through the ages and protect the wearer like a shield. Dumbledore lies to Harry about what he sees in the mirror.
