Today I wrote a few sentences in Telugu in english letters and they were deleted. I was not aware of it. "Ignorance of law is no excuse". (Ignorance of rules or law of a State or a country cannot be taken as an excuse for committing mistake/wrong.)
Apart from this we are not supposed to comment on the quality of English also.
I have told two important points which will be helpful for newcomers. Are you aware of this provision? If yes ok, if no please update and implement.
I am only sorry because of me the person who started the post also wrote in the same way and her postings would have also been deleted.

Hi ravisivan,
Yes I was and am fully aware, as it is listed in the guidelines. Though at times I have posted something in Spanish I always use the (=) sign and translate it, but then it is part of the discussion and the name of the dish of that is what I am mentioning, therefore, it was fine as the translation was in English.
No issue my friend it happens and one learns from it, we just cannot continually duplicate guideline violations as there is where the problem will be if one continues.
Thanks for the reminder though as all of us certainly can gain knowledge from any errors.

thanks HWG ! I like these words of yours:
"No issue my friend it happens and one learns from it, we just cannot continually duplicate guideline violations as there is where the problem will be if one continues. "
Encouraging. Yourself, mysdianit are people who are fully aware of various important provisions.
have a nice day.

You are welcome my friend and all of us make mistakes from time to time. It is important to continue the old saying that says, we should never judge a person by their mistakes, but more by and how they correct them.

I knew about these rules here, in Mylot. But I don't think it is the end of the world if you post something in another language, with the English translation next to it.
If there's a quote you want to share, I think it would be nice to post the original version of it then the English translation.
About the quality of English I couldn't say anything because my English is not too good.

yes. your observations are correct and helpful. I started this discussion so that people are made aware of it. Not all of us spend time to go through FAQs.
This is similar to LIC policies -- I would have taken 20+ policies in my life. Believe me--I have not read fully even one policy -- all that I use to do is to verify premium amount, monthly/quareterly, amount assured etc.

hi ravosovan this is why it so important to read all the Mylot info as you would have known you cannot post in textese or in any foreign language.whey is its so hard for mew people here or anyone
to read the mylot information and know what the heck they are doing
on mylot? So now you know refrain from your foreign language on mylot as they have no translators.all newcomers would be aware of this rule had they bothered to read the mylot guidelines and the rules of discussions.
you all would not have discussions deleted if you had read the rules.

Good Morning Madam: Thanks. the amount of patience for people of your age is commendable. It is less for people of my age and still less in youngsters. !!
You are with your son/daughter?

Not only for you. But for me also. English is easy to communicate than the mother tongue nowadays because we spend most part of our wake up time before laptop typing english words. have an excellent day.

ya now a days most of the people at houses also speak in english only rather than mother tongue.
and here in mylot since we are discussing with the entire world i think english should be made compulsory.
its good that mylot doesnt focus much of spellings and grammar because if that would have been a case then the posting would have taken more time and mylotters would have got bored also because we are humans and bound to make mistakes here and there while writing.
good day.
:)

I have not posted any sentences in any other language other than English.I have quoted from "Thirukural" after translating it into English.Of course the grammatical is not being deleted. But some members points out the mistakes by which myLotters may learn also the correct English.

As per rules we are not supposed to comment on quality of English. the idea is free communication. If people fear about grammar then they may not be able to communicate well. have a nice day sir.

yeah that might be the case and that is why we are informed but if we comment on a discussion which is about my lot earnings and all.
we know we are not allowed to discuss earning on mylot and hence post can be deleted.
does that affect our ratings on mylot.

it is a good doubt. I think I am not having a straight yes or no answer for this. I have not seen it in FAQs. You see everything cannot be told. Even constitution of a country running into 8000 pages is not fully complete and is subject to amendments.
I think we may not get earning for postings made by us in deleted discussions and that is why we are being informed.

I am kind of glad that mylot is an English only. Can you imagine all the post we would have not been able to read if they did have it in another language. I would feel like I would not understand and that I would miss out on a good conversation!

True. Actually out of anxiety to tell the other member I know telugu also I started writing in another language. Now I have learnt to avoid this.
True You cannot understand if it is going to be in other language. Same thing for me also, when we come via Frankfurt in Germany -- we cannot follow what they speak in German language. No doubt English is the universal language spoken by maximum number of people in the world.

Yes, the basic logic is that you should use a language everyone can understand, and, clearly, that has to be English.

yes. Write in basic english understandable to all and that is what is required to bring a success. I will follow it hereafter.

This is expectable in any forum, as everything in written in English, it's supposed that all posts will be in English too, and the guidelines remark this as well as in this discussion and is good to have around the tip.
But that rule is of course not that strict. The main body of the post must be in English as everyone here is supposed to understand to some degree at least. But we may as well include some phases, citations, comments in other languages as well, as long as we clearly state that we are telling somewhat in other language and if obviously related to the topic. The classic example is "How does .... is said in ...... ?", and the answer will be in that language.

Yes I agree, as long as a post is understandable by someone that knows somewhat basic-medium level English should be enough, no forum is that purist with language. I just keep my browser's spell checker active and nothing more. I'm far from good English, but I guess most people can understand at least what I say/try to say.

True. Once I could not remember it properly and subsequently I realised. Another point is we should not find mistakes in English. This of course encourages people to participate freely. If I worry about usage of correct grammar I may not be able to write more. have a good day.

Yes, these are 2 important rules to keep in mind when creating or responding to discussions. We all make rule violations on occasion. We learn from them and try not to make the mistake again. It's unavoidable at time. You get caught up in what your do and all the rules get tossed out. Best Wishes!

learning from experience is what is required. Follow rules fully is another rule. have a good day.

Welcome to mylot I like your comment. In this forum we are supposed to put detailed comments. Oneliners are not encouraged normally. Please read the previous discussions and the trend in which discussions go. That will give you an idea as to how you should post them. have a good day.

Thanks for your information I just know it now so we can't write in our respective language. Maybe because english is the only language that is universally understood. We haven't tried if there is a website similar to mylot that is using one's language. Not all people in the world know how to speak and write english.
